You need to go to a phone shop that stocks 3G sims. Get a $10 sim (a blank free one probably will not work). You didn't say whether you were on a pre-paid sim or a plan. You have not mentioned the network area where you are located and if the service provider has given you the message center number to be put into the message settings, then the phone must be able to send the message. if not remove and delete any other center number that was entered earlier also you try and reset the phone.
