I cannot remove the magneto cover from around the stator. I removed the fan and the center bolt. I used a flywheel puller to try to remove the magnet cover, but it won't budge. Do you have any tricks to remove the cover?

SOURCE: please help I have a 1980's model susuki dr 250

I have a 83 DR 250 and i'm not getting enough voltage to create a spark, all I can suggest is that you check your battery and make sure its at full flavour. Check and see if you are getting any voltage prior to the ignition coil (should be 18-35v). If you suspect battery then try clutching it as the alternator moving faster might give you enough to get her going. Also check all your connections and earths. Earth wires are often overlooked and can cause you just as many problems as the actives. So give that a go and get back to me mate. Cheers

How to remove fly wheel on 2strok xl suzki m120x 160397

Once you remove the recoil starter and the engine cover remove three bolts holding the starter cup. Loosen and remove the main flywheel nut.

Now using a harmonic balancer puller thread three equal length bolts through the puller slots into where the starter cup bolts were. Now tighten up the puller's center bolt to put tension on the flywheel. Once good tension is on the setup take a brass hammer and tap the center bolt of the puller. This should loosen the flywheel. You may need to retension the puller a time or two to get the flywheel to break free.

Where is the stator located

Hi, Thanks for your Question. My name is Kevin and I will try and provide a solution to your question.
Your Husqvarna is equipped with a Briggs and Stratton engine. The Stator acts as an alternator to provide power to keep the battery charged after passing through a rectifier/voltage regulator which converts the A/C current generated by the stator into D/C current regulated to approximately 13.8 volts.
The stator is located beneath the flywheel at the top of the engine. Keeping in mind that it is extremely rare for a stator to fail, it should be tested to verify it is malfunctioning. This can by done very easily with a voltage meter set to measure AC voltage at the plug prior to the regulator. Once verified that it is defective, the following procedure will provide access to the stator.

Remove the top engine cover via loosening the four bolts, two in front and two near the rear of the engine. You will also need to remove the fuel pump from the cover and removing the dipstick support fastener. Once the cover is off, remove the bolt from the crankshaft located in the center of the flywheel. You will need to use something to hold the flywheel so it does not turn as you remove the bolt. A large screwdriver placed into the cast iron section of the flywheel will work fine. After the bolt is removed, you will need to use a flywheel puller to remove the it from the tapered crankshaft. A puller can be purchased at auto parts store such as Napa or an online site such as Amazon ( HERE is the LINK to order )
Briggs Stratton 19203 Flywheel Puller

The stator may now be removed via three or four fasteners and the new one installed. It is very important to use a torque wrench to tighten the flywheel so as to not crack the flywheel nor damage the bolt or crankshaft.
I hope this helps. If you have any clarification feel free to ask. You may wish to bring the machine to a qualified repair shop to properly test the stator and replace if needed. Labor should be no more than one or two hours.

How do i remove the ststor from my ktm mxc 300

Disconect the stator wiring coming from the engine cover, drain oild if its a wet coil, remove engine cover, remove fly wheel (will need a puller or flywheel removal tool witch threads into the fly wheel inner thread and pops it off when you screw the bolt down the inner thread of the puller) remove the stator bolts and thats you.

I am getting no spark at plug. Briggs model 31c707 motor. I have charged battery, adjusted valves, verified fuel line clear. Pull spark plug put into wire hold to motor and crank (no spark)

Hello, the next couple of things to check would be under the engine lid.

  1. Remove the screen over the air fan on the top of the fly wheel.
  2. Remove the 4 bolts securing the main lid and remove. Depending on the year of this engine it may have a secondary cover that Craftsman put on that will need to be removed first.
  3. When the lid is off you will see the magneto coil right above the spark plug; just follow the spark plug wire up to it.
  4. Use a wrench to see if the magnet on the fly wheel is strong. If the magnet is bad or really weak the flywheel will need to be replaced.
  5. Next check the magneto ground out wire. It will be a small black wire on the magneto. Unplug it then crank the engine. If the engine starts plug the wire back on the magneto and if it shuts down there is a short along the wire. It should only shut down or short out when the key is shut off. You will need to find the short if this is the problem.
  6. If the magnet is strong and the above test still fails to provide a spark then it is likely that the magneto is bad. You will need the rest of the model number; it will look something like: 31c707- # # # # - # # The part runs somewhere around $35.00 from Sears, but you might find it on-line cheaper.
  7. Replacing the magneto is pretty straight forward from there.
  8. Remove the old one and replace the old one adjusting it as far away from the flywheel as possible.
  9. Turn the flywheel until the magnet is directly across from the magneto.
  10. Put an ordinary business card between the magneto & the flywheel.
  11. Loosen the 2 screws that hold the magneto in place just enough for it to tighten up to hold the business card in place.
  12. Tighten the screws holding the magneto & rotate the flywheel to remove the business card.
  13. Test rotate the flywheel by hand a couple of full turns to ensure there is no contact with the magneto.
  14. Replace the small black wire, spark plug and spark plug wire, then test fire the engine.
  15. Shut the engine down and replace all the remaining parts in the reverse order as removed.
You should be good to go after this. If this was helpful please vote yes. Thank You!!

How do i remove the fly wheel on 2003 polaris 600 sportsman

remove the recoil cover bolts, then pull the recoil cover off exposing the flywheel. Remove the nut from the center of the flywheel (use an impact) along with the washer. At this point you will need a flywheel pullter. You can get one at harbor frieght for about $15.00 or you can usually rent one at Autozone. Do not use the "claw" type of puller as you change damaged the ring gear. Get the type that has a center push bolt/shaft and three holes for various types of bolts. Find the bolts that fit into the three bolt holes surrounding the nut on the face of the flywheel. Careful not to insert the bolts to far as you can damage the stator coil behind the flywheel. Good luck

Need to replace my stator on 99 zr arctic cat

Remove rewind then flywheel.Lower rewind housing bolt may be a little tough to get out being its on the bottom.Flywheel needs to removed with standard 3-bolt puller and may make a load pop when comes loose.Housing around stator needs to be removed,4 allen bolts hold this in place.Do not install flywheel until stator housing is bolted back in place. After you removed everything be sure to check and see if hood harness was routed under rewind housing because in the past a few had the wires smashed from engine pinching wires between stator housing and main frame.Best place to buy stator from is Dennis Kirk,$213,just did one on my 99 ZL600.

How do you remove a stator on a 1992 honda cr250 2 stroke

Stator unbolts, do you mean flywheel? You need a puller for it, it threads into the flywheel, after you remove the center bolt, left handed threads.

How to change an alternator on 2002 r1

If you are talking about the stator, you need to remove the left engine side cover, remove the bolt that is holding the fly wheel to the crankshaft, then use a flywheel puller to get the flywheel off the crankshaft, then remove the 3 screws holding the stator to the cases. Unplug the electrical connection for the stator and reverse the procedure for reassembly. Use a new gasket, and be sure to apply Yamabond 4 to the case cover across the rubber plug for the wires and extend the yamabond down the cover gasket surface about 1" past the rubber on each side.
Use some lock tite when putting the screws back in to the new stator. You do not want them coming loose on you!
Make sure you get the bolt holding the flywheel tight when going back together.
That should fix you up!
Thanks
