On the softail model Harley Davidson's the oil tank is external and sits up higher than the engine crank case and oil pump. when these bikes sit for an amount of time the oil gravitates from the tank to the crank case. starting may seem sightly harder and seem like the battery is going dead. the bike should be started in knowing that you had oil in it to start with and no giant leak puddle underneath of it. warm up the engine and then drain the oil out of the tank. the reason why your filler cap popped off is because you had probably 2 1/2 to 3 quarts to much engine oil in the bike. so drain the oil from the tank at the drain pug at the bottom of the hose on the high (right side ) of the bike where the swing arm meets the frame (it is a 5/8 socket) put the drain plug back in run the bike for about 5 minutes inspecting with a flashlight continuously that oil is circulating back into the tank. then dran it again and replace with new oil.

How do i change the oil?

I'm assuming this is for a vehicle.
Read the owners manual and purchase the correct oil and oil filter for the vehicle before starting.
The workers at any automotive store can help with that also if you don't have the information needed.
I like to do the air filter at the same time, you don't have to but it's good to.
If possible it's always to change the oil warm NOT HOT!
Park the vehicle, put on the parking brake then open the hood/engine compartment.
Look for the oil fill cap and loosen but do not remove.
Directly under the engine there is an oil pan. On the pan there should be a bolt, make sure your not messing with the transmission.
Put a drain pan under the bolt then remove bolt letting the oil drain into the pan.
Once it is just barely dribbling out reinstall the drain bolt.
Some have what is called a crush washer, either way DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!!! If you do you could strip the threads then you will have BIG problems.
Now find the oil filter, put drain pan under that also and remove the oil filter. Sometimes people over-tighten them so it might be a little tough.
Once that is removed pour a little of the new oil into the filter and rub some on the rubber ring on the new filter. Now install new filter. It only has to be hand tight, you do not need to tighten it with a wrench of any kind.
MAKE SURE THE DRAIN BOLT HAS BEEN REINSTALLED then remove oil fill cap on the top of the engine and fill oil to manufacturer specs.
Check oil level with dip stick,if good reinstall oil fill cap and dispose of oil correctly at a recycle center.

2005 fat boy oil change

Stand the bike upright. Remove the dipstick from the oil tank. Remove the drain plug on the bottom right side of the frame. While the oil is draining, replace the oring on the drain plug. Remove and replace the oil filter, after filling the new filter half full of oil. Replace the drain plug. Put 3 quarts of oil in the oil tank. Replace the dipstick. Start the bike and check for leaks. No leaks, you're done! I use HD Syn 3 synthetic oil in my '04 Fatboy, but you can also use a conventional 20w50, as long as it's made for use in and air cooled motorcycle. Don't use car oil!

Chancing the oil filter

Drain the oil and unscrew it, screw new one on and refill oil and your done. Fill up the new filter with oil(not so much it'll overflow when u put it on) before reinstallation so u don't have a dry first start and rub a little oil on the new filter gasket(rubber part).

EZGO 4 stroke petrol engined golf cart how do you service it

Change air filter, oil, spark plug, cable to battery, When changing the oil, there is no need for a new filter. Just wash the old one with carb clean. Held in by 3 small bolts beside the drain plug. Check the rear end oil (90 weight) use the upper plug. Fill till it runs out. Grease the front end. Change the fuel filter. Drain the carb if it is going to sit thru the winter.

How do i change the oil in my 1994 buick park ave

first you will check your owners manual for the required specification of what weight ( 10w30) oil to use and then the fill capacity.( 5.quarts ) also the auto parts store will tell you those as well. I always buy one extra quart. Once you have oil and filter, warm car up for 3-5 minutes, (this will help oil drain faster and easier) once car is warm shut of motor, block rear wheels jack the front of car up enough to slide under it. BLOCK car or support with jack stands.put a drain pan under car, remove the oil drain plug on the bottom or side of the oil pan.( make sure your catch pan will hold at least 6-7 quarts of fluid. once oil has stopped draining replace drain plug, now remove the oil filter, unscrew counterclockwise, lube new oil filter seal with oil, screw on to oil housing clockwise rotation, hand tighten. fill motor with oil to recommended fill capacity.start car , check for leaks around filter, if no leaks shut car off and lower car to ground, check oil on dipstick and wipe off, insert and check again, fill to fill line on dipstik and your done.

How to change oil on a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 motorcycle? Where is the oil pan plug?

Firstly run your engine till you reach its normal running temp .The engine drain plug will be found under neath the engine normally at the lowest part .Warm oil drains out of the engine much more quickly that cold oil ..when all the oil stops dripping then remove the oil filter ,make sure that the sealing ring is removed ,take care the oil in the filter will be very hot .replace with your new filter make sure you do not cross thread the oil filter unit and any seals have been fitted . Refit your drain plug and fill up to the required level . start engine ,your oil level will drop because the oil filter will fill up and the new oil will be pumped around the engine. make sure that the engine level is topped up when all the oil has reached all the parts of the engine .Do not over fill the engine as this will cause unwanted pressure .and oil leaks .Remember to replace the oil filler cap and that its tight .

How do I change the oil on a 2002 fat boy? Where is the drain plugs?

On the fatboy, the oil drain plug should be on the right side, just under the frame, directly below the oil tank. The primary drain is on the left side under the derby cover on the bottom. The tranny drain is on the bottom towards the rear pretty much centered.
And, as our darlin' little miss piglet said, a maual is worth the investment.

How do i change oil in 2002 saturn sc2

you will need approx. 5 quarts of Oil 10W 30
you will need an oil pan, rags an oil filter wrench(walmart--very cheap). New oil filter obviously. 14mm wrench or socket for the drain plug.

Procedure: let car warm up (this will help drain all oil out faster and more efficiently)

take drain plug out first,
let that drain while you place a little oil in the new filter (if it is a horizontal mounting filter then there is no need to put any in)
use your oil filter puller and take off the old filter. that may have a little residual drainage; after that place the new filter in and then replace the drain plug(once all the oil has stopped running out. a little bit left in there won't hurt) place at least three quarts in to the filler hole. then start the engine for aproxx 30 sec. This will allow the oil to fill the oil filter and also heat it up a bit. let it sit for a minute then check the level. It may take a little over 4 quarts, you will have to check the dip stick as you pour more in. take it for a test drive then park on the level, let it sit for a minute, then check it again. if it is way over then you must drain some back out. over filling can damage your engine.

Changing oil on 2003 electra glide

I don't blame you for wanting to do this yourself. Be sure to use a harley filter and harley oil.

Drain the oil, replace o ring on drain plug, replace drain plug, remove oil filter, fill oil filter with 20/50 harley davidson oil and replace filter being careful not to overtighten, fill oil tank with the bike upright to the fill line on the dipstick. Take the bike for a short ride and check the fluid level while warm.
