Unscrew the sparks, place them in their pipes, touch the spark on a metal surface with negative polarity, ( like the engine block) and hit the starter. If the spark well, then your problem is on fuel.
Remember, that petrol engines always require three things:

AIR, FUEL and SPARK. If any of them is missing, you'll never get it working.

Cranks but will not start

You need to check your charging system, if your stator is bad your battery will not charge. As far as it shutting down while riding that sound like you have an intermittent ground, so check all wire connections.

Bike will not start or stay running on a full charge battery/bought brand new battery, still same promblem, jump bike off, will crank ,ride bike for 30 min. park bike, leave bike running, lights start's to...

sounds like the problem is your battery is not charging when you are riding. The most common cause is a faulty regulator / rectifier. Contact a motorcycle wreckers for these parts, or your yamaha dealer.
Easy way to test is, when your bike is running, and the lights start to dim, before the bike shuts down, using a volt meter, test the voltage at the battery terminals, should be about 14V. If faulty rectifier,no charge going in to your battery, then the reading will be low, about only a few volts. If you dont have a volt meter, then any mechanic shop can do this test for you. best to have this done before buying any parts.

97 YAMAHA YZF 1000,wont start itself after bike is warm

Have you checked the ground lead?

Make sure it is clean, it runs down and bolts to the top right hand side of the crank case.

Sometimes what happens is, that lead gets grime on it, oil or corrosion.. and it doesn't make good contact. The lights, spark ETC load the crank case and frame full of DC.. when you shut the bike off the dc cant flow through the starter so it won't turn over.

after a while the dc trickles out it will let the bike start again.

Hope thats it and it works for you, good luck!!

P.S. how is he liking his ace?? Awsome bike, I have had mine since 1999, and it not about to go anywhere!!

I change the oil in my bike an now it will not start

Remove spark plugs, try turning it over. I f it won't budge try pouring a few tea spoonfuls of wd40 or mystery marvel oil and let it set for an hour and repeat again. After several hours try and see if it will turn over or not. If it turns over reinstall the plugs and start it up. Your rings on the piston have stuck just enough to seize the engine. It should free up if you keep repeating the procedure. After you have it running, shut it down and replace the oil again.
