Anonymous Posted on Apr 17, 2010

I have a 2000 suzuki intruder 1500. When I turned the key on all the lights came on and when I pushed the starter every thing went dead, nothing. Tried ignition switch again and nothing. Rode bike eariler and every thing worked fine. Checked all fuses and they were okay.

I removed the battery and had it checked (checked Ok).
I did not replace the starter solenoid, just cleaned battery terminals and connections with a wire brush,
checked ground wire and found no loose connections. After putting everything back together and tightening all battery connections real good the cycle starts and runs every time.

It couldn't be that simple, I don't have luck like that. I disconnected the battery wires, wire brushed them till they shined, reconnected them and holy cow, the bike fired right up and has been fine since. THANKS.

I have the exact same problem. I replaced the battery, checked all the wires and fuses with no results. Did you replace the solenoid and if so did that work?

Could be a bad connection to the battery or the starter solinoid cant think how to spell it but its where the positive battery wire hooks up

Testimonial: "Thanks for the information, sounds like it could be a loose connection. Where do I find the starter solenoid ? "

just follow the positive wire at your battery and it will take you to it

1999 Suzuki intruder VL-1500. Nothing from starter when ignition hit. Fuses checked.

Question edited for clarity, full year make model.
Question moved from Suzuki Cars.

Does it has an anti-theft system? All the hallmarks of what happens when you disconnect the battery. It may be a faulty switch, as they do wear out.

Intruder not starting.

You are in neutral, clutch pulled in, kick stand up when you push the button?

Check the voltage on the starter side of the solenoid when you press the start button. Your solenoid may need service or replacement. You may also be able to jump over the solenoid with a heavy cable brom the battery to see if the starter will run.

Try either, MAKE @#$%@ SURE you are in N and the clutch is pulled in before you try this stunt.

Did you check the fuse at the starter relay?
This is main system fuse and not in the fuse panel with the other sub-system fuses.
