By rights you should pull the sidecase off the motor & the rocker cover, & fit an endless chain over the crankshaft to the cam(s)if you can get a chain with a joining link or get one from a bike shop & ask them to split it for you, you can just take the top cover off the motor, line the cam timing up (piston @ top dead centre(should have timing mark), cam lobes (pointy part) facing as far as you can get both at the same time from the cams, remove timing chain tensioner, let old chain go slack, join new one to it & loosely pull through, make sure bike is upright when you put new one in so chain locates on bottom sprocket properly, then reassemble chain & peen pins over with ball peen hammers.

Where are timing chain tensioners? I need to change them.Does left one have an electrical connection? Thanks

The timing chain tensioners are located with the timing chain inside the timing cover and usually are not changed unless the timing chain assembly is replaced. Why would you change them?

How do I replace a timing chain in an 1997 chevy caviller

Hi there,

Generally, in "chain" driven engines, it is not neccessary to change the timing chain unless it is seriously stretched or broken (only timing/cam "belts" require interval changing).

However, if you are experiencing the symptom of chain "rattle", then I would first reccommend you change to the correct grade of engine oil, then secondly, change the chain "tensioner".

Does a timing chain need to be replaced on a 2000 Mazda MPV with 112,000 miles. No problems just curious.

timing chains let you know when its time to change them as they rattle but if you do a rebuild at say 200k then obviously change the chain/tensioner

Need to change the timing chain? Can you change the chain and nothing else???

Hello yes you can change the timing chain and nothing but but it would be wise to put the two gears on at that time that comes with the chain.

Does the 2000 silverado v8 have a timing chain and if so at what milage should it be replaced

yes the silverado's have timing chains, just about all v6's and v8's have timing chains, and timing chains should not be serviced, unless you are having problems with a timing chain guide or timing chain tensioner

Timing chain replacement

Easy. Nissan almost always ran on timing chains esp the trucks. You will not have to worry abt changing the timing chain ( if ever ) to usually at least 250,000 or 300,000. I seldomly have heard on anyone changing them though.
