Check battery voltage,if you can jump start off another battery more than likely your battery is not holding a charge, now if your batery is good and the motor turns over slow and drains the battery you could have decompression problem

okay, test your battery then disconnect starter lead at starter connect pos. lead of meter to pos. lead of starter cable connect neg. meter lead to neg. battery energize starting system does solenid click? your reading must be within one volt of battery surface voltage.if this all test good remove starter and bench test it.now if this test bad go back to solenoid check primary voltage check your primary ground check primary resistance (under 5 ohms) note disconnect starter cable from solenoid then test secondary rehook starter cable to solenoid pos.lead of meter to pos. lead of solenoid neg. to neg. due voltage drop test energize system no more than .5VDC good luck

Car wan't start

Hi there:It sure sounds like a dead or weak battery or problem with connections at battery or starter contacts. Check all connections and make sure there is no corrosion built up at battery terminals. Charge battery or try jumping.
If even dont work, check starter, starter solenoid or ignition switch.
Hope this helps.

I have a 1996 Chevy Suburban 1500. No crank or any noise or sound when trying to start. Battery is good, even tried jumping to make sure. Could this be the starter? If so, where is it located?

The starter is next to the side of the lower engine block where the engine and trans meet(I believe on the passenger side on GM V8s)You should get 12 volts on the small(purple?) wire of the solenoid when the key is turned to "start".If you don't get 12 volts when the key is turned,it could be the switch on the shifter(usually referred to as the PRNDL switch)IF you get 12 volts at the solenoid when you turn the key, replace the starter(my Chevy work truck has gone through 6 starters(ONE A YEAR)since I've had it!)

My vulcan 1500 classic will not start without jumping the battery. as soon as the jumper cables are removed the bike stalls and will not start.

Most modern bikes will not start unless the battery is charged. Battery is probably dead, and you rectifier is most likely dead too. change those out with ones known to work and see if that changes it.

Vulcan1500 will not start

On The vulcan you can access the starter relay directly, you have 2 bolts for the power leads on the back, carefully short the two big bolts with a screw driver, this wil put power directly on the starter bypassing all. If you think that there is a problem maybee with the starter, then 1st remove the starter from the engine and do the same test outside the engine to avoid damage.
i do have starters in stock. www.bikepartsonline.co.za

Fully charged battery in meanstreak 1500 but just clickin wont start is the starter gone?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, check / bypass / replace the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, follow the cable from the battery's + terminal.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

My 2001 vulcan 1500 will not start. the indicator lights work but when i try to start it all lights go out for a second then come back on again. battery shows fully charged on trickle charger.

Measure the voltage on the starter side of the solenoid with the kill switch ON and the key ON and the starter switch PRESSED - trans in N. IF it is not 12 volts, it may be faulty.

2001 kaw Vulcan 1500 will not start. new battery, starter relay

Check continuity at the kill switch? sidestand switch? Either could be malfunctioning. What does your manual tell you about the starter relay circuit?

The solenoid is clicking but the car does not start

Hi,

A couple of possibilities:
  1. the switching contacts of the solenoid are burned - you can try jumping the battery cable straight to the starter motor terminal;
  2. the carbon brushes of the starter motor are gone and/or not making contact with the commutator segments - might require replacement of brushes or the entire motor
  3. the big battery cable is loose - checking/re-tightening/replacment of clamps/connectors.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
