Could be #130 bolt backed out of the shift drum.

Could also be the one way clutch # 19194. Push the shifter pedal half way up or down to disengage the clutch if it rolls that eliminates the OWC.
Tried that, it is still stuck in a gear- not sure which gear, but believe in a lower gear. Assume getting fuel, spark, and air since it starts when hot-wired(will not start unless in neutral-but STUCK IN GEAR) thanks
I'd first check clutch adjustment. Make sure that half shift on the pedal releases the clutch. Then make sure the shift shaft returns . if it doesn't could mean broken weld at the arm and shaft.
Buy a gasket first.

first are you getting spark?second are you getting fuel? to check the spark take out the plug and put it back into to cap(holder) do not touch the plug and turn over the engine.you will see a small spark.if not you starter coil is bad.to check the gas look under the carb there will be a overflow hose by the overflow hose is a flathead screw, open it if no gas comes out you will need to take out the carb and replace the float valve.

Try installing a new carb kit and that should help. Thanks for asking and I hope it helps

I suspect a broken or loose wire in the headlight bucket or where the harness goes around the frame neck. Check your battery connections, fuse connections, and ground wires. After you you have loosened and tightened all the bolts, plugged and unplugged all the wire connections(make sure wire colors match up), Starting the bike and turning the handlebars back and forth. If all this checks out you probably have a dirty switch. You said you checked all the switches but maybe the failure is load related. Out of desperation I take the 35 year old switches apart on my Goldwing, clean them , and put them back together. It is possible you have a dirty contact in your ignition switch (dirt across the connections) that could be the problem. It sure sounds like a main switch problem, but, the only switch you are activating, when you put it in gear ,is the neutral switch and the clutch safety switch. Recheck those systems or replace them first. Try bypassing the swiches one at a time to determine which one is the problem. Be happy your not on a mountain top 600 miles from home cleaning an ignition switch with a pocket knife.
Testimonial: "Re-checked all switches with a VOM and all were working. Problem was a bad connector under tank for side stand sw.. THANK YOU much for assistance "

it should start if the clutch lever is pulled in even if it is gear, check the kill switch this on a lot of bikes goes faulty and gives the same symptoms as you report
