It would depend on the door knob construction and what was stiff inside it.
The problem could be part of the handle or part of the lock mechanism.
For a typical indoor door lever handle, undo the screws on the face plate and take the handle off and oil as appropriate. You may have oil handles on both sides of the door.
For a rotating door knob handle there is generally a single screw on the underside of the knob
For a lock mechanism, you could just spray oil inside the mortise moving part (you wouldn't have to dismantle anything to do this!).
However to dismantle it, you'll need to remove handles on both sides of the door, remove the square bar that slots between both handles and remove the lock mechanism (you may have to remove locating screws that exist on the mortise face. If lock mechanism is user serviceable then there will be screws to undo to allow it to be dismantled. If none exist then it is probably worth buying a new one.

It is an Emtek keyed lock. I got one knob off and think I can get the other off. The plates do not seem to have a notch for a screwdriver. That is my problem now. I put Graphite with a thin needle, everywhere that I could. Now the door knobs are really harder to turn. Gyess I really need to get into the inside. How can I pry the plates off?

How do I remove this doorknob? It has no visible screws, and no tabs or set screws to remove the knob itself.

Look for a pin or slot on the side for an insert to pop the cover hiding the screws.

I have an exterior screwless doorknob that I need to remove. The faceplate on the inside knob that covers the screws is also covering the little pin that removes the knob. Is there another way to remove...

There is the 3rd version of the Kwikset exterior door set. The interior face plate is removed and on each side of the base plate has small slots with a lever on either side that need to be moved to the other end of the slot. The whole interior knob assembly with come off.

How to put the striker from a door knob kit back together

i can help you with that...just follow this steps...
1.Remove the old doorknob by taking out the screws that hold it in. You will have to remove the striker separately by removing the screws that hold the strike plate in place on the outside edge of the door. Slide the striker out.
2.
Take the new doorknob, striker, and strike plate out of the packaging and look for the directions. (Most doorknobs are installed in the same way, but there are always exceptions.)

3.
Slide the striker bar into the hole. Insert the screws into the striker plate and tighten.

4.
ake the two halves of the doorknob, and place the one with the male end through the hole in the striker bar. Place the female side of the doorknob on the other side of the door and make sure that it lines up with the male end. Slide the two together. Screw the knob together using the two long screws that came with the doorknob. Make sure that the screws are tight. Make sure that you have the lock facing the right direction. You want the locking mechanism on the inside of the house or room.

5.
Test your work before you shut the door. Make sure that both sides of the door knob turn and the striker bar goes back and forth.

How to tighten loose Gainsborough passage door knobs?

Hi, W/D here.
I don't know your brand of lock, but I have extensive experience with locksets. My information, then will be somewhat generic, but should get you what you need.
Since you called it a passage lockset, I'm assuming that it an be locked from one side as in a bedroom lock, operated by button that is either pushed or turned to lock the door.
On that side of the lock, there will be two screws, one on either side of the knob. Sometimes the screws are hidden by the trim ring. If that is your case, you'll need to look around the trim ring for a slot that you can insert a screwdriver into to remove the trim ring. If this is your type, the doorknob will have to also come off. This is usually accomplished by another tab on the neck of the doorknob that you have to press in with a screwdriver and pull the knob off once the tab clears the neck. (It sounds harder than it really is). Anyway, take the knob off, pop the trim ring and tighten the screws.
Hope that this has helped, --W/D--

Bathroom doorknob stuck in locked position.

Hello,

I will tell you how to fix 'em. Open the Door Knob with a screw driver, gently pull aart the two knobs once open, then look for a long sliding rod, pull one knob away, twist the Knob untlil it is in unlock position, put them back together to test if it slips properly. If it does not, there is something preventing the rod from rotating freely. Try to ensure it rotates freely. Then screw back together :)

How do I remove the doorknob from a weiser passage set? Want to paint door and remove passage set. Can't seem to find any slot to remove doorknob.

Door knobs have an escutcheon plate (The round part that touches the door ) that covers the screws attaching the knob together.

To get the knob off first look along the shaft of the knob ( The straight part between where you grab the knob and the escutcheon) there should either be a allen head screw or just a metal button. If its a button push in on it while you pull the knob away from the door or if its a screw just unscrew it either way the knob will come off.

Now look at the edge of the escutcheon where it touches the door. On some models there's a little detent or hole where you can put a small flat head screwdriver in to pop the escutcheon loose from the plate. If there is no detent or hole then it may be screwed on. Just grab the escutcheon and turn to the left.

Once you get the escutcheon off you'll be able to see the screws that attach the door hardware together. Just make sure to pay attention to how you took it apart so it goes back the same way.

Hope that helps !

Doorknob sticks in 'lock' position-but no real 'lock' feature

If this is the lock part itself, try gradually loosening install screw enough to be able to manuver lock to work and if so slowly tighten as you test each time gradually. Please clarify problem more if need to.
