Replace the transaxle or see if it can be rebuilt. Those transaxles have incorporated electronic solenoids that can fail causing the codes to appear as you described. One thing you might check prior to getting it rebuilt or replaced is have the computer checked and check all of your wiring connections. Anytime you have a wiring connector on the exterior of the vehicle you can get corrosion issues it may be simply cleaning the connectors, placing dielectric grease on them and reattaching. Before cleaning any connectors always disconnect the negative battery terminal.

The speedometer is not working and the trans. seems like it's not going into 2nd

computer diagnostic will give you codes to repair vehicle better but sounds like you need to replace Vehicle Speed Sensor (Output Speed Sensor) On a 31TH TRANS sensor located near the transaxle extension housing, on the 41TE trans located between the module and the park/neutral switch (black)

Speedometor not working and trans not shifting . any ideas? thanks

on the LH cars, 41TE is your trans regardles of engine, the rear output speed sensor has failed, left side of trans, towards the back, the one in front of trans is your input sensor, when the rear fails the trans goes to limp in mode, hence no shift and no speedo, easy to replace, best when everything is cooled down, about $50.00 for the part. You have to clear the mill light to. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

Shifting gears

the speed sensor is for Overdrive only, it does not shift the gears it sends the signal to the transmission control module that in turn signals the overdrive shift solenoid to engage/shift into OD.

Problem with Chrysler Stratus 41TE A/T transmission

You need to have the TCM scanned for codes. You likely have a bad speed sensor.

1991 Chrysler Imperial Problem

Your car has the A 604 transmission also called the 41TE,and it uses an input and output speed sensor mounted on the transmission. These speed sensors feed information to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) one of the vehicle's computers, which calculates vehicle speed, and sends a speed signal to the speedometer in the dash.It is a totally electric speedometer and odometer,no cable drive like old cars.So the first step would be to scan the vehicle's computers for diagnostic trouble codes,as a malfunctioning speed sensor can cause your symptoms, sometimes accompanied by no upshifting,or erratic shifting. All the components involved in the system have to be deemed good,or repaired if a component is found defective. With the scan tool, there is also a data stream available for viewing the systems while the engine is running and the car driving,to look for malfunctions.Within the data stream,i can look at the speed sensors individual outputs, and see what the computer is seeing as far as inputs and outputs. If the speed sensors check out ok,and are functioning properly, then the problem would likely be the instrument cluster, including the speedometer in the dash. But other components have to be verified good before drawing conclusions.
