either the master clutch cylinder is bad or the slave cylinder is bad. The slave cylinder is difficult to bleed. You should use a mityvac to bleed system.. it will require 2 people and new fluid. never let master cylinder to get low on fluid.
The clutch slave (or master) cylinder is failing. There's a tiny chance bleeding the clutch might help. Check the fluid level, but the clutch slave cylinder is very common in Ford trucks to fail.
For manual transmissions the master cylinder holds BRAKE fluid with a 2 ounce syringe filled with brake fluid and rubber hose on the end loosen bleeder screw on slave cylinder located on transmission near the engine squeeze the fluid into system master cylinder reservoir should start filling up this will force all air out the master tighten screw.
Check and bleed out the air in the system . It may be necessary to undo the line on the master cylinder to allow the unit to prime up first . Do up the line then bleed from the slave cylinder nipple. You will require a helper as it will not bleed out by gravity.
The problem is that there is still air in the system. You will need a friend to pump the cylinder while you work the bleed screw. You may have to loosen the line at the master cylinder to allow the cylinder to prime up . But what ever you still have air in the system
Did you prime the slave cylinder? if you did I would remove the master cylinder and check to make sure that it is still functioning properly if not replace it
Check the brake fluid level in the slave cylinder first If low you will not be able to shift..If you have to fill it, pump it for 30 to 40 times to prime with the engine off. Then check the fluid again. If full start and see if it shifts. If it leaks out the slave cylinder or line is leaking
when you buy the new clutch assembly , ask - make sure the little tool is in the box to release the hydraulic line at the slave cylinder , you don't wont to loose prime in the hydraulic system , that would be time consuming ,otherwise its a normal job, if you have never released a hydraulic line from the ford slave cylinder before , it is tricky , ask the parts man to show you a slave unit and explain how it releases . you will be thankful in the end .
