Why do my heat only blow hot when going down the road when stop it blow cold again

Look for trapped air in the coolant system. When you are running down the road the engine RPM provides enough pumping action to force the coolant pass the air locks (trapped air) in the system.

You need to purge the air from the coolant. Some engines require opening a purge plug to vent.

The following video provides a simple way to remove the air.

How do I purge the cooling system?

With the engine cold, turn the heating controls to hot, remove the coolant cap, start the engine and leave running on idle till the car gets to working temperature (so the thermostat opens) watch the coolant bottle to see if air bubbles escape (purges) then leave running till no air bubbles are seen (about another 15mins) then put the coolant cap on BEFORE turning engine off!

HOW TO LET THE AIR OUT THE COOLING SYSTEM ON A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

You should have a vacuum puller, but alternatively, you can purge it by letting in freon on the low side and opening the high side for about 4 seconds, that should purge all the air in the system.

Adding coolant to1998 honda accord purging air pockets

4 cyl Accords have a low pressure, self purging cooling system, so no purging is needed. Add coolant (cold engine) to the normal level. Then, with the coolant tank cap closed, open the radiator cap and fill the radiator completely, close the radiator cap and run the engine for a couple of minutes. Replenish the coolant to the proper level, since it will go down after the air bubbles have been extracted at the coolant tank.

My 1996 cadillac sts is overheating.. ook how do i get air out of it

There is no need to purge the air out of the cooling system as it is self purging on the northstar engine.
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank or trace the hose further back until you locate the blockage.

The cooling fans wont kick in and its boiling

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
If the purge line is blocked you may have an air lock preventing coolant flow.

Air locks in the Northstar engine shouldn't be a problem as the system is self purging, providing all the hoses are clear.

Check the coolant level in the tank,it should be half way when cold.
There is no cap on the radiator as it is a fully pressurized system.

The expansion tank is the only means by which to add coolant to the Northstar engine.

Check to see if your fans are working by switching on the air con, they should run all the time.

With the air con off,the fans won't come on until the temp hits around 225 degrees.

Also, if it's boiling over, the cap on the expansion tank may not be holding pressure and therefore needs replacing.....a new cap only costs a few dollars so it is worth replacing to see if this solves your problem.

99 deville...how do you bleed out air from cooling system?

There is no need to bleed air out of the system as the Northstar is self purging.

If you are having overheating problems the most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank(Not the cap!),this is the purge line.

Air locks in the Northstar engine shouldn't be a problem as the system is self purging, given that all hoses are clear.

Coolant not circulating / fans working, water pump working and thermostat is new. Sound of water slushing in the firewall area. 1999 oldsmobile aurora 160000 miles

I assume you know that the only circulation happening unti lthe thermostat opens at its nominal temperature is through the heater core if in use. If peering into the radiator opening, you will not see more than the most minimal movement until the thermostat opens.

You may have an airlock in the system and it could be in the heater lines so if you have done a coolant change or had the system open, you need to purge the system of air.
If you have no radiator cap like many newer vehicles, this isn't as easy to accomplish. You will have to pass through several cycles of warmup and cool-down and each time refill the reservoir to the marked level with coolant mix. During this, you will have to have the heater control set to warm the interior so that the coolant is forced to circulate throughout the whole system.
