2003 Harley Ultra no brake lights

I have a 2003 Harley ultra classic and do not have brake lights either with the front or rear brake. I can hear the brake light relay engage when I activate either the front or rear brake. The lamp is good (and tried new lamp). Any suggestions?

SOURCE: removing harley davidson ultra classic gas tank

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.

0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.

All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

SOURCE: How do I change the front and rear brakes on a

Not too hard - Undo the two bolts on the caliper and then seperate the caliper and pull the old ones out. Insert the new ones and put the bolts back in to hold the caliper back together and then install them back on the bike with the two retaining bolts. Use a bit of lock tight (Blue) on the threads. Warning do not let anyone apply pressure on the brakes while you have them off the bike or you will have a mess and/or a problem.

Turn the Bike on and the Radio off and then follow the buttons on the screen. Most people think you have to do it while it is running and this does not work

SOURCE: harley 1998 ultra wiring schematic

Sorry but I don't have a wiring diagram that I can send you but I may can offer a bit of help.

Your passing lamps are simply wired into a hot circuit somewhere. A lot of schematics don't show them because they are considered "add ons". They also may have a fuse inline with the "hot" wire. They have only one wire that connects them to the bike with the rest being inside the "light bar" itself. Find the wire coming out of the center of the "light bar" and trace it back to where it hooks up. Sorry but that's the best I can do on this one.

On your front brake light, there is a switch located inside your right hand switch housing where your throttle is located. It is a plunger type switch that is activated when you pull the front brake lever. A simple test of the switch is to loosen the bolts of the master cylinder and slide it towards the center of the handlebars. If the switch is good, the brake light will come on. If the switch is bad, it will not.

To get to the switch, you'll have to take the right hand switch housing apart. First, loosen the throttle cables at the adjusters and then remove the two bolts that hold the switch housing halves together. Carefully open up the switch housing. You will see the small switch in the front of the housing. You'll have to desolder the wires, replace the switch with a new one, and resolder the wires to the new switch.

Reassembly is the reverse of the disassembly. Make sure you slide the master cylinder all the way back against the switch housing or the brake light will stay on constantly. Readjust the throttle cables and check for proper operation. You don't want your throttle sticking.

Good Luck

I have a 2003 harley ultra classic and my brake light stays on what should i check for? also my front running light are not working and i have checked the fuses and the wiring what should i check next?

Check the front and rear brake switches. Unplug one of the connectors at the rear switch. If the brake light goes out out, the problem is the front switch, which is located inside the right handlebar control housing.Check the bulbs in the running lights.

No rear brake light on 2009 Ultra. Where is the switch? Light works with the front brake but not rear.

The rear brake is activated by a electric/hydraulic switch located in line with the rear brake line. It is located behind the rear brake pedal, and faces forward. It is about 3 1/2" long and an inch in diameter, cylindrically shaped. That is probably what is the problem is. You can check the wires for corrosion and connection first.
