Hi, Ed you could have a faulty sending unit or gauge, there could be a problem with your wiring. On models with the fuel gauge posing as a left-hand fuel cap, the gauge is a press fit do not try to unscrew it, simply apply ample force lift up in a rocking motion to remove gauge. Disconnect wires to the gauge and with a set of positive and negative jumpers from the battery connect the positive jumper and flash the negative, the gauge should peg full, if not replace the gauge. With a test light check for power to the sending unit, then remove the sending unit and manually operate the float arm slowly with the correct wiring hooked up to the fuel gauge and sending unit and the ignition on, the gauge should respond accordingly if not replace the float arm assembly. If your fuel gauge registers the incorrect amount of fuel in the tank you can try bending the float arm the necessary amount up or down for a more accurate reading.

Hi, Robert excellent question because I also own a 2003 FLHTCUI Anniversary model and was thinking about going to Daymaker Lights, but it makes no sense that your passing lamps would have anything to do with radio reception unless you:
1. Replaced the long antennae with a shorter one.
2. Relocated your antennae.
3. Faulty grounds on the antennae, radio or passing lamps.
I suggest you contact me at the address below so we can further discuss this issue.

Hi, Anthony I own the exact same bike in the gun metal blue Anniversary Edition, before diagnosing any turn signal/running light/parking light issue make sure the bulb is good and the light fuse has continuity with a test light. If you have replaced you OEM lights with LED lights you are going to need a load equalizer. If no turn signals work the cause could be a faulty turn signal module or the connector going to it, look for corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets. Contact spray cleaner is great for removing corrosion. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. If your front turn signals don't work use a test light to check for power and ground at the bulb socket, then start backtracking the wiring through every wire connector to the turn signal switch/button and check for continuity, go all the way back to the fuse if necessary to find the cause of the malfunction. If your rear turn signals don't work check your rear fender wiring harness connector first for corroded, broken, loose pins/sockets, power, and a good ground, (the harness connector is usually located under the seat on the front of the rear fender) then keep tracing the wiring look for obvious harness damage caused by the rear tire. If you still can't find the malfunction backtrack from the rear fender wiring harness connector. If one side does not work you could have a faulty turn signal switch or module check for continuity.

Hi, Patrick I can relate to your uncomfortable concern about your oil leak but this is no longer the platform to resolve your issue. I am a retired Harley-Davidson Technician of 35 years with credentials to die for and if that's not enough I also own a 2003 FLHTCUI Anniversary Edition. The procedure you will be doing is not difficult but if not properly performed will result in engine damage. I currently have no mercy cases and would be more than happy to walk you through your top end surgery, so contact me at xlch@mail.com where we can communicate easier. Thanks Gregg

Hi, Patrick I just read the comment you left me it appears there is some confusion about the gasket in question are you talking about the top engine gasket (rocker cover) or a tappet block gasket or a transmission cover gasket and do you have a service manual? I presume you mean the radio/cd cuts out and not the engine. I also presume you are not letting the bike idle away as you listen to music! If you are, then the bike is over heating and piston seizure is the causing it to stop. Now, if it is just the radio/cd unit cutting out, the radio/cd unit has developed a thermal fault that requires specialist attention. Nothing you can do.

Thermal safety cutout is shutting down ignition, if you don't feel the engine is that hot replace thermal cutout and relay

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.
17. For a free wiring diagram please visit the website below and good luck.

I had a problem like that on my 2003 ultra classic. turns out there was a recall on some electric block in the fairing. It was a main connection power block kinda thing. Anyway they replaced it and then it never happened again.

it would ride a while on a hot day 25 min freeway and then just shut down. wait and cool down and it would restart.

I hope this helps.

Hi Donald:
First basic questions
- Tire pressure correct?
- Tire condition?
- When does this happen? Cornering? - shock setup?
- Load?
- Speed?
Any info you can give will help to find the problem.
If you reply as a comment to this post I'll receive it.
Cheers.
