Ok ,under the carbs there is an adjustment tha can be made. It stands out about 2 in. just below and centers the carbs. It has a bolt head that you can turn to change the tention. If this does not fix the problem then you need to remove the valve cover and check the guides and top tesioner slide for wear. Hope this helps

There should be a spring loaded pressure bar with a external set bolt you loosen a little to let the spring push the bea against the chain.

Most motorcycles need to have the valve clearance adjusted every so often. When the tolerance get to loose it will "tick" more loudly.

Adjusting cam chain on 1980 susuki gs motocycle neen to know the proper proseedure to acjust chain

there should be no adjusting cause it is spring loaded .. if you have after market adjuster ! take the side cover off . you want to turn the crankshaft by hand . once you have done this . then have the nut free on the adjuster .roll crankshaft around wile hand tightening the adjuster .. you only want it hand tight. then tighten the nut . if you still hear chain slap ! tighten another 1/4 turn .. and that should be it !!

Join the Kawasaki Riders Club for access to a generic Kawasaki service manual ... You might find a actual manual at your library. If you are going to continue maintenance at this level, you might want to invest in a actual service manual for your CSR 1000.

82 Kawasaki KZ1000 LTD engine ticking/tapping

Kawasakis of this vintage have an automatic cam chain tensioner so the timing chain adjustment is not likely the problem. The chain itself may need to be replaced however, which is not a difficult job for a mechanic with a shop manual to follow the proper sequence and reinstall to specs. Otherwise, you may wish to seek professional help. If you do, ensure the mechanic knows Kawasakis of that age group.
