SOURCE: fuel pump pressure

In my experiences over the years pressure testing the carbs and messing with the fuel pump, I have never actually tested the pump output. Knowing that the average pop off pressure of the float valve on the float is 10-13 psi, this being tested via hand held pressure gauge to ensure no leaks before installation on the bike. I assume that the fuel pressure coming from the pump should not exceed the pop off pressure or it could cause the carbs to leak though and the bike would run rich. Hope this helps out.

No returning petrol on a bmw e30 323i spitronics titan management system i hav a inline pump wit pressure regulator

Hello. Either your B.M.W. doesn't have a return fuel line or, if it does, that line is blocked/restricted. The latter isn't likely because the engine might 'flood' with gas, making it hard to start/run. Keep me informed; if you want to.

My bmw1100r pump will prime but not pump fuel once i try to start it--is it the regulator or allsensor switch by the pulley?relay seems to work

Most likely the hall sensor behind the pulley. If you have access to the GS911 diagnostic tool, the hall sensors can be tested.

Alternatively, have a look here: http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/oilhead_hall_sensors.pdf

1995 ford escort keeps burning up fuel pumps they get hot and quit I put a air tech pump in bosch in I replaced filter now a relay and fuel pressure regulator if its got one is the next step any ideas

Sounds like a bad pressure regulator. The regulator is suppose to adjust the pump speed to match demand. Some units work by counting the RPM with a crankshaft sensor. Check fuel pressure at test port. Sometimes the pressure needs to be adjusted when changing a pump.

Engine will not fire immediately when key engaged unless accelerater pumped prior to key engagment, already changed fuel filter twice

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is allowing the fuel pressure to bleed down. While sitting (key off) it should hold about 30 psi of fuel pressure to keep the system primed. When it bleeds down it causes an extended start, you sometimes have to cycle the key a couple of time before it will start. If this is the case then replace fuel pressure regulator. FYI pumping the accelerator on a fuel injected vehicle does not prime the system.

I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy that won't start.

It sounds like a faulty fuel pressure regulator. When you turn the key to the on position the fuel pump starts for an instant to build pressure in the fuel line. If the pressure regulator has allowed too much leakage since the last start then the fuel pump does not have enough time to prime the line. The fuel pressure will still measure ok when the car is running because the leakage is very low. Try turning the key off and on a few times prior to starting and see if the extra pump priming steps help. Also check the vacuum line to the regulator because it needs vacuum to work correctly.

I have a 1998 gt mustang i recently put a 255lph pump in alls been fine since, had a tun and all for all the mods. but the other day the car wouldnt start. primed the throttle body and was able to get to...

A couple of extra checks are turn the car over and try to start while some one squeezes the fuel return line,At the rail, with tool that doesnt damage fuel line.It eliminates fuel bypass through the fuel rail.No need to undo anything.Have someone confirm you have power while Cranking at the fuel pump end.It eliminates power supply issue. If these two test work out ok then the pump is looking very much like the culprit
