My 2005 Equinox will start , but only will idle, even if i push the accelerator to the floor. Also when i try to put it in gear is slams into gear. After doing this for about 2-3 minutes then is stalls. At first i thought that the timing chain jumped, but it seems more like a fuel problem. The day before i was close to Empty on fuel, and i added injection / gas treatment, then drove to the fuel station and filled up with fuel. Next day drove to work ( about 45 mile not issues ) When i started up my car to leave work it started rough, and then had very little power, and would only idle. what do you think ? Full pump / clogged filter maybe ??

Could be an air flow meter or faulty pressure relief valve.Try squeezing flexible fuel line before fuel rail with appropriate tool that wont damage the line and see if there is any improvement.obviously allow just enough fuel through the squeezed line so engine continues to run.If it appears to improve you will have to replace pressure relief valve. If its a vacuum controled valve check that you a getting a good vacuum supply. You may also want to put a bottle/can of injector cleaner in fuel tank to clear up some of the build up of contaminants that can cause injectors to stay open and/or function poorly. The symptoms you describe are also consistant with a failure of the air flow meter.i think they cost about $89 exchange but check the fuel system first as its free to check yourself and will eliminate one more possibility.good luck
SOURCE: wont keep idle, car stalls out
I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.
SOURCE: my fuel system started having issues a few days
take it to a Dealer and have a scanner put on it.Sounds like a fuel pump or possibly a sensor gone south.
SOURCE: 2005 equinox will start and stall
Sounds like a fuel filter that gets clogged with dirt and then gets unclogged when you put the fuel treatment in your gas tank. Love your car it needs a little TLC. Replace the fuel filter and make sure all fuel line connections are tight.
SOURCE: rough idle, cruise control also stopped working
Sounds like you could have gotten some water in your fuel tank from that fill up. Go to a autoparts store and get a product to put in the tank that takes care of water in fuel. Use it when you fill the tank up a few times after and hopefully it goes away. Whenever you can't sustain power in the engine or it runs rough then your cruise control will constantly be shut off because the engine doesn't have the power to keep the speed up and should go away once your engine is running clean again.
Good Luck
