Oil light came on recently (99 1200 bandit n) but there is plenty of oil in the motor. with the bike stationary upright the light stays out (except when i bounce the front end) and then lent to the left the light stays out, lent to the right and the light comes on. when lent to the right and the revs at about 1500 rpm the light goes out, when the revs drop back to 1000 rpm it comes back on. i have checked wires to the pressure switch and all seems ok, don't know what to check next.

There are 2 oil pumps. One is the HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) that goes through the oil radiator, and sprays oil on the bottoms of the pistons. The other is the LVHP (Low Volume High Pressure) that oils the engine internals. One of these pumps has failed. They are located on opposite sides of the engine. When the pump fails, it does not remove the oil from that side of the engine, leading to oil starvation for the remaining working pump.

It would be best to have an oil pressure check. Get a reading at both idle and at 1500rpms.
Could be oil pump or bearings.

Will not run without choke 1997 Suzuki GSF 1200 Bandit S

Hello, bike not running off of choke is an indication that the pilot circuit in the carbs is plugged.. the choke is a enriching circuit hence why it runs only with the choke on. When turned off the bike starves for fuel and dies. My guess is the bike has sat for longer than 4 months and the pilot jets are plugged from varnish... they will need to be removed and properly cleaned.

I have a bike that there is no resistance when paddling.

if this is a stationary bike, look on the wheel for a hand operated knob that has a roller on the tire itself.. this is a tensioner..it will need tightened up..the tighter you go the more resistance you get.the new ones use electronic braking system..dont now how it adjusts except by the control module..

Katana oil

I have owned a 600 bandit and now have a GXF 650F, both have a sight glass in the sump with high and low level marker lines. Engine casing about where the toe of your right boot will be. Check oil level with the bike upright not on side stand.

Starter motor

Take the spark plugs out and take breather hoses off and let it dry out.your carbs may need cleaned and synchronized. Also change the oil and you should be fine.

Suzuki bandit sticky gearbox

Stop riding the bike until you change the gearbox oil and oil filter. Yes, the oil is probably the problem. I am somewhat surprised that the pistons haven't seized yet. On the bottom or lower side of the gear box there will be an oil drain plug. Drain the oil and put in new oil. The oil fill hole is probably on the right side cover near the rear of the casing. The plug will probably have a dip stick to measure the oil level. Put in 10w40 motor oil. Ride the bike for a few hours then drain the oil to help flush out the dirt and grit built up in the gearbox. Put in fresh oil and a new oil filter if the bike has a filter.

Your bike is 18 years old and parts can be difficult to find. Your bike probably has an oil filter. If so, it desperately needs a new one. Google " vintage suzuki motorcycle parts " . I can not find a free service manual online. You may be able to buy one at www.repairmanuals.com

Oil plug

Bottom of oil pan...underneath the bike. Approach the undercarriage from the leftside of the bike, so you will not have to deal with the exhaust pipes. Remember to change your oil filter with every other oil change.
