How do i disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor so that I can take out the carburetor and clean it.

the throttle cable DOES NOT attach to the carb on that engine. It attaches to the control panel underneath the carb. you have linkage rods that connect and they either have clips or you need to pull the carb mounting studs

2001 yamaha ttr 125 when started it runs at full throttle without me touching the throttle

I would check the throttle adjustment screw on the throttle assembly on handle bars. Be sure it is not screwed all the way in for max throttle. You can also check the carb and be sure that the idle screw is not adjusted for high idle as well. There may be an adjustment screw on carb for the cable stop.

I have a 1999 kawasaki zx6 and i need to get new carbs because the throtle sticks . I need to know what carbs will bolt directly in?

z_dogg, you do not need new carbs. Several issues may cause throttle sticking, and all of them are cheaper than a new set of carbs. Introducing a used set of carbs just introduces a new unknown set of potential issues.
This approach moves from easiest to most involved solution.
First, take apart the throttle at the handlebar. Clean the throttle tube, the part you twist to accelerate, and lubricate the throttle tube and throttle cable with penetrating oil like WD40. To get the lube into the cable I use a finger from a rubber glove with a small hole in the tip, slip it over the cable end and fill it with lube, then let it seep down into the cable. Best results ever. Re-assemble this end and test your results.
Second, if it is still sticking, check the cable routing. Often the cables get bent or twisted and cause binding that prevents free release. Make sure the cables are routed with no sharp bends, and the largest curves possible.
Third, disconnect the cable from the carbs and move the throttle linkage itself. If it snaps back into place, it is the cable not the carbs. If it does not snap back, lube the linkage at each carburetor while moving it and see if it frees up.
Fourth, if it still sticks, you will need to pull the carbs and clean them thoroughly inside. It may be the vacuum slides that are sticking open and keeping it from slowing down. It would be best to invest in a manual to guide you through this process. It can be done with a few cans of carb cleaner and careful handling of the parts.
All the best in your repairs!

Trying to locate instructions for husband trying to take off the carburetor of a 1997 HD dyna wide glide.

No problem. To remove the carb, take the air filter cover and the air filter element off. There are three screws in the backing plate and two large bolts, one on either side of the backing plate that screw into the head (may be covered with rubber discs). Take the large bolts out first then loosen the three screws that screw into the carburetor a few turns at a time on each one. The backing plate will come loose and the screws will stay in it. Then go to the choke cable and loosen the large nut on the backside of the bracket. Remove the cable from the bracket and let it hang loose. Then, loosen the throttle and idle cables at the throttle grip. Take the fuel hose off either at the carb or the fuel petcock. Wiggle the carb while pulling it away from the engine. Once the carb comes out of the intake, take the throttle cable and the idle cable out of the linkage on the carburetor. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the nipple on the backside. Guide the choke cable out while removing the carb from the engine. Now, he should have the carb in his hand. So, why does he want to take the carb off? The Kiehin CV carb is a very good carb and there is no need to change it. If the bike is not running because it's starving for fuel, check the vacuum operated petcock on the fuel tank. They go bad and will not let the fuel flow from the tank to the carb.

How to change out a choke cable on 2001 barley fxd

To change the choke cable, you must take the carb off the engine. Remove the air filter and backing plate. Take the nut off the backside of the choke cable and let the cable come out of the bracket that holds it. Make sure the petcock is turned off and disconnect the fuel hose at the carb. Loosen the throttle and idle cable at the handlebar throttle assembly. Pull the carb out of the intake manifold seal. Work the throttle and idle cables out of their positions in the carb. Bring the carb with the choke cable out and away from the engine. Take the choke cable out of the carb with a 14mm open end wrench. Take the plunger and spring off the old cable and swap it to the new cable and reinstall the choke cable. Put the throttle and idle cables back onto the carb, put a new intake manifold seal on the intake manifold and push the carburetor back into the new seal. Put the choke cable in it's bracket and secure the nut. Be careful and do not over tighten the nut as the plastic cable housing will break. Reconnect the fuel line, the vacuum line, and anything else that was taken off. Replace the air filter backing plate and the air cleaner. Readjust the throttle and idle cables making sure that the throttle operates freely and returns when let go on it's own. Never put any kind of lubricant on the choke cable. There is a knurled wheel that you can use to tighten the cable so that it stays where you put it.

How to replace choke cable

In order to replace the choke cable, you must take the carburetor off. Start by taking the air filter assembly off the engine, including the backing plate. Then, disconnect the fuel line, drop the choke cable from it's bracket on the left side of the bike, and loosen and disconnect the throttle cables. There is a vacuum line that plugs onto either the back of the carburetor or the intake manifold. Once all this is loose, pull the carb out of the intake seal and guide the choke cable out of with the carb.

Now, that you have the carb out, using a 14mm wrench, unscrew the choke cable where it goes into the carb. You'll have to take the plunger and spring off the old cable and put it on the new cable. The screw it back into the carb.

Reconnect the throttle cables and vacuum lines and install the carb back into the intake using a new intake manifold seal. If you don't replace this seal, you may wind up with a vacuum leak and have running problems. Reinstall the fuel line and air cleaner assembly. Adjust the throttle cables and make sure the carb works correctly. Never lubricate the choke cable. If you do, it will not stay out when you pull it out. There is knurled tension wheel behind the knob when you pull the knob out. Tighten or loosen the tension on the cable with this. Do not over-tighten the big nut on the backside or the cable housing will break,, cheap plastic stuff.

How do i take off the throttles cabels from the carb

First remove the air filter and backing plate from the carb. Then loosen the adjusters at the handlebar grip. Back down at the carb, pull up on the throttle cable, the one to the rear, and slide the cable out of the slot and then rotate is down so you can get the end out of the carb cam. Then do the same thing with the idle cable.

To get the enricher cable out. You must pull the carb out of the intake manifold seal and then you can use a wrench to screw the cable out of the side of the carb. Make sure you take the enricher cable loose from the mounting bracket at the knob end first.

I need step by step instructions on how to replace the throttle cable on a 1980 harley sportster

Ok, you should have two cables on your Sportster. One is the throttle cable that pulls the carb open and the other is the idle cable that acts as "safety cable" to pull the carb closed should the throttle return spring on the carb break.

To replace either or both of the cables, it will be easier to remove the fuel tank before doing so. Make sure you look at how the cable are routed from your handlebar grip to the carb. Drain the fuel and take the tank off your bike.

Now, first loosen the cable adjusters so that you have all the slack you can get in the cables. Take the two bolts out that hold the right hand switch housing halves together. Carefully lift the top half off exposing the nylon throttle sleeve. The cables are connect so that the throttle cable is to the front and the idle cable is to the rear. Work one cable at a time out of the sleeve. Be careful and do not loose the "barrel" that goes on each cable. With the cables out of the throttle sleeve, you can pull them down through the throttle housing. Then, disconnect the cables at the carb.

To reinstall the cables, do everything in reverse. Make sure you pull the throttle grip off the handlebars and apply a bit of white lithium grease to the handlebar, inside the throttle grip, and on the nylon throttle sleeve where the cables connect. Get everything assembled but just before you tighten the bolts that hold the switch housings together, slide the throttle assembly towards the center of the handlebars until it stops, then back if off about a 1/4 or 3/8 inch. Do not adjust the throttle or idle cables too tightly, you need just a bit of slack in each one or the throttle will hang. When you think you're finished, with the engine off, turn the throttle to the wide open position and release it. It should snap back to the fully closed position. If not, work with it until you get it where it does. Reinstall the fuel tank.

Caution, failure to insure proper throttle operation could cause serious injury or death. Do the job right or take it to someone that can. Your health or your life ain't worth risking for the few bucks you save.
