I dont know what that code means but should not be hard to find out. Never change anything on your car guessingg that it is the problem. there might be a faulty sensor or a broken wire and you went out and spent alot of money and headache to put a new transm !!!!!since your problem is defenitly not the transmission, i would say there is poor comunication between the gear box and ecu

SOURCE: service engine light on 2002 mitsubishi galant

it could be the spark plugs, at least that is what it was for mine, if you have over 50k miles without a spark plug change i highly suggest one, also a oil /transmission change would be great for your car too if you haven't done those reciently. I would also suggest using a higher grade gas, sometimes this fixes the trick too.
If you try all those and still experiencing hard transitions please let me know and i'll try a more indepth analysis on your car.
Thanks jyotsna.

SOURCE: transmission delayed engagement at cold start

Depending on how Cold it is where you are, The cold will effect the Operation of the Tranny. I am pretty sure that your Tranny is Fine, Just Really Cold. Depending also on where you live, I use Valvoline Quick Change to service my Vehicles when I am on the Road. Have never had a Problem with them. On the Fluid, They make so many Different Kinds now adays that it is hard to Choose. Look in the Back of your Owners Manual and Use what is Suggested in there.

SOURCE: Spinning My Wheels!! ---- P0421 Code Mitsubishi Galant

I have the same vehicle, same code P0421, changed the BOTH O2 sensors and the check engine light was still on, took it to my fathers garage and checked the Catalytic Converter, and it was ok later I found out that P0421 means that the vehicle doesn't have the proper mixture of gas and air (running richer) so I changed the MAX air flow sensor and wala the code went away.

SOURCE: i have a 1998 mitsubishi galant es and need a tranny.

The best way is to make sure you give the correct information IE: yr, make, engine size, and VIN. That will ensure the correct trans. As far as knowing if it is a good trans, the best advise I can give is to make sure it is a reputable parts dealer, and make sure it is a low mileage trans (if used), make sure they offer a warranty, and have them or yourself pull the pan to inspect it for metal shavings.

the truth is , you didnt post country, nor engine size.
they match engine power to transmission (load rating)
so>? forget that.. that is for later.
IT DIED< so if the engine dont START the tranny issues are moot.
so does it crank.????
if it cranks , it next needs spark got spark to all cylinders.
that is if its not the Diesel engine, IS IT??

Low Engine Power

Check if air filter is clogged, check compression. Replacing entire engine and transmission seems overkill. Also check for vacuum leaks.

How much on average would it cost to get a new motor for a 2002 mitsubishi galant and get it put in?

If a 4G64 4 cylinder, a decent used engine would be about $700. This engine will have to be serviced with new belts and water pump before its installed. 2 hours labour.

Removing the old engine takes about 3 hours labour.

Installing the new one takes about 4 hours. You should replace radiator hoses and clamps. If the radiator is in poor condition, a new one is strongly suggested.

So you are looking at 8-10 hours labour plus used engine and service parts.

If a V6, the engine might be $1200. Labour to R/R is the same.

Service engine light on then off code saying bank 1 bank 2 what does this mean and what can i do to fix it thank you mrs. mayers

There should be a specific code. A "P" followed by four digits, for example P0420. I will have a better idea of how to answer you question with the code provided.

Banks refer to the left or right side of the motor. Bank 1 will always be the same side of the motor and the number 1 cylinder. On a V-6 or V-8 bank 2 will be the opposite side of the motor. Inline 4 cylinders, 5 cylinders or 6 cylinders will only have a bank 1.

2005 gallant with O2 sensor engine light is one...how do I fix it?

have the engine light code scanned, and it'll tell you if it's bank 1 sensor 1, bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 1, bank 2 sensor 4.

Bank 1 is on the same side as Cylinder 1
Bank 2 is on the opposite side of Cylinder 1

Sensor 1 is located before the catalytic converter.
Sensor 2 is located after the catalytic converter
