The purge solenoid is part of the evaporative (EVAP) emissions system which handles fuel vapors. The fuel rail is part of the fuel supply system which handles liquid fuel. Therefore, the purge solenoid will not be located on the fuel rail. Service information for the 2000 Montero Sport 3.0L/3.5L shows that the purge solenoid is located at the center/rear of the engine compartment near the throttle body. It has two black rubber hoses; one which connects to a port on the intake manifold and the other to the EVAP canister. It also has one electrical connector with two wires; one yellow/black wire and one red wire.
