Went on a journey in heavy rain last week. Without warning the wipers stopped for a couple of seconds and then continued working fine. When I finished my journey and turned the wipers off, the wiper blades finished in the middle of screen. Now everytime I use the wipers they do not return to park position when they are switched off. Any idea what could cause this problem and how to fix it?

On most cars there is a parking circuit within the motor mechanism which returns the arms to the rest position after the inside wiper switch is turned off. so there is always some power going to the wiper motor. again on most cars the problem you describe is generally a defect in that circuit. however on some cars this circuit is in an external box attached to the wiper motor. so you need to find out if that circuit is contained within the SaaB wiper motor or is external. if there are any dealers left you could call one and ask at their service desk. if it is internal then you are going to need a new wiper motor.

Wipers won't turn off

The wiper motor is defective and needs to be replaced. Inside the wiper motor is a "Park Switch". When you turn the wipers off, the park switch sends a signal to shut the wipers off. If the park switch fails to operate then the wipers will continue to run, unless the ignition key is turned off. You will also need to inspect and test the charging system. Where you had no issue before the rain, you may only need to charge the battery. After the battery is charged it should be load tested, to be sure that it is fine. Also test the alternator and make sure that it is charging correctly (@14volts). If you need more information please write back. Good luck.

Wiper Motor problen

Most likely this is caused by something binding or water getting inside the motor, either way it is tripping the thermal overload inside the wiper motor.
