Not sure about the squeaking noise, possibly the rack-n-pinion or a dry seal. The clicking is a CV joint or joint in the steering system needing replaced.

Why does my mountaineer sputter sometimes while driving it? ive already changed out fuel filter and spark plugs, it has approx 140000 miles on it

There are many possibilities that can cause car to make noise.

It's actually from where the noise is coming from. Front end or rear end. From engine area or from inside the steering or from brakes.

There is N-number of possibilities for the car to make sputerring noise or any other kind of noise.

I want to know if it is dangerous to drive with a squeeky clock spring in my van

Yes its risky. Dont drive with that noise from clock spring. Its indication of its failure.
I believe this is the "clockspring" -- the electrical cable inside the steering column that connects your steering-wheel-mounted electrical controls to the rest of the car. ("Controls" used be just the horn.) The cable wraps around the steering column so it can turn with the steering wheel. Sometimes it starts to rub and squeak.

Have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra that makes creaking noise in stearing wheel , not so much when cold but definitely when it is hot

Sometimes the boot or the rubber at the base of the steering column will make that type of noise. To help eliminate it, rule it out or identify it spray some silicone spray on both sides of the boot/rubber inside and outside.

moz-screenshot.jpgThere is a TSB for your complaint from Saturn: Here's the jist of it.

Condition: Some customers may comment on a squeak or squeal noise coming from the base of the steering column while turning vehicle.
Cause: The squeak or squeal noise may be caused by insufficient lubrication of the intermediate steering shaft-to rubberboot- contact area.
you may be able to get it warrantied through saturn. this is the TSB #

My car makes a humming noise when excellerating and is especcially noisey when turning steering wheel to the left. there is also a continous squeak. my husband put WD40 on the bolt on power steering box...

If WD-40 got on belt, and squeak went away for a while, it may just need a new belt. The humming noise sounds like a worn wheel bearing that should be checked and replaced if needed. If squeak goes away when you push slightly on brake pedal, it may be rotor on same side as wheel bearing making the noise due to slight shifting of rotor because of worn bearing. You can try swapping tires on front from one side to other to confirm it isn't tire problem as well. If noise shifts to other side, then it's a tire.

2004 Mazda tribute steering wheel squeaking

Well a steering flush would not necessarily be related to squeaking.

So, you need to locate exactly where the sound is coming from...
It really sounds like steering wheel turning and resistance causes the noise, is this constant, or only while actually turning the wheel?

Likely it would be semi constant, so that would focus you on the assist portion... Be careful around all moving parts, but you need to locate the source.

Try taking a section of heater hose, and listen through one end and move carefully around with the other end and see what you find. Likely something under the hood, with your note about window open...

Now, if the squeaking stops when the steering wheel stops turning, now steering components are suspect.... So, again, louder with window down makes me think outside and in front...I would stand in front of the car, have your handy assistant actuate the steering wheel, and you decide which side, right or left.... Suspect items that squeak only during steering wheel input include, amongst other things, the entire strut, all ball joint, including joints in the steering linkage.... Be sure to keep clear of moving parts, your handy assistant would not know they they are crushing you, while truning the wheel......
