Timing chain broke ~ drove car all day and was very sluggish and would not go over 50. Drove it to dealer and parked it, they went out the next morning to start it and it wouldn't start and they said the timing chain broke and it was unfixable. they did not tear apart the motor, that was just the initial diagnois

There is no way on this earth that you would be able to drive a car with a broken timing chain. The engine would stop immediatly if the chain broke and there would probably be some very expensive collateral damage as well. Any timig chain can be replaced, but it may include replacement of things like tensioners, guides, sprockets, several valves and possibly even pistons - basically a complete engine overhauls.
