Flooded floorboards and iffy airconditioner in 01 Galant

I had my 01 Galants airconditioning repaired in May and have been back 5 times. It shuts down on long trips. Another condensor, expansion valve and temp sensor have been put in after the $2K repair job. It is still unreliable and I have a lake in the passenger floor boards. The mechanic claims it is rain water - though most of the water collected on a 700 mile trip with absolutely no rain. What does the heater core have to do with the puddle and the airconditioner?

Thanks for you help. The mechanic was not interested in my (your) input. They said it was not the drain hose last week when they kept the car 2 days. But today, that is what they fixed. Later I saw a puddle under the car - so I guess that is a good sign? If this is finally fixed - I'll be looking for another mechanic. It is not easy being a woman. Have a good day - we are bracing for tropical storm Fay.

I have the same problem. My 2003 Mitsubishi Galant is raining on inside. The ac shuts off on long trips and it is dripping on the electriacal. The radio is fried and I smell somethig burning.

The heater core lines are under the dash and when it starts leak i will flood the floor board. does the ac shut down even if you are running it on recirculate and on fresh air. it may be the compressor clutch. if that hasn't been replaced yet.

okay did you get the flood fixed in the car if not. open you hood and on the passenger side look for a little black rubber tube with a 90 degree bend clean that out they are prone to clogging. evaporator drain hose is what you are looking for it is on the fire wall (back wall of engine compartment)
this hose will cause cabin leakage.

1995 mitsubishi galant will not engage in any gear but park does keep it from rolling. Would this be because of the torque converter?

You have a 7th generation mit galant. These are great cars but they have one major weakness; the auto transmision dies. Generally you have to have the trans rebuilt or many owners swap ion a manual trans. There is a great web site for owner's of the mits galant. http://www.thegalantcenter.net/ lots of great information about galants to include hwo to swap the auto trans for a manual. You want to go to http://www.thegalantcenter.net/forum.php and scroll down to 7 generation section of the forum Galants are great cars; I own 4 of them, all 7g

Auto transmission wont go into 4th

This is a very common problem which can be fixed for under $100 without removing the transmission

It is the end clutch which can be removed as an assymble aout the side of the transmission. New parts will run under a hundred. Serch and you will find pages that show pictorials on this repair.

How do I replace the fuel pump on my 1997 Mitsubishi Galant?

The step by step procedure is given below
  1. Take the back seat out with clips under driver's and pass sides.
  2. Remove the four screws on plate and disconnect wiring harness.
  3. Remove wire harness clip. Disconnect HP fuel line at line connection. Squeeze other clip and remove LP line.
  4. Pull Sending unit out carefully, not to disrupt the float at end of sending unit.
  5. Clean seals and spaces on tank.
  6. Replace pump and/or sending unit.
  7. Galants do not have fuel filters, so make sure you change the internal sock or screen.
  8. Rebuilt same way you took out. Don't smoke, and all your repairs are in the car.

Hi iv got mitsubishi galant and just auto trans work on revers gear could you solve my problem please

This is the kind of thing you have to prety much take to a trans shop. One word of caution; do not let them take your trans from the car to figure out what is wrong with it unless you are planning on having them fix it. This is a typical ploy of trans shops. They get your car in and get your approval to pull the trans to check it out. You will not get your car back together unless they rebuild the trans so call around and ask about the price of having the trans rebuilt before you take it anywhwere so you have an idea who is going to rip you off so you can avoid them right up front. With that said.....
Assuming the transmission is filled with the correct amount of transmission fluid you should know that the major weakness with the the 7th generation Galants (1994-98 Galants) is the auto trans fails. Generally you will see a gradual loss of function. First it will stop going into some gears, then it will not even move the car at all for a short waiting period. In the end it just wont move the car period. Ultimate recourse is to either rebuild the trans or replace with a manual unit from a junk yard. Information on doing a 5 speed swap can be found here: http://www.thegalantcenter.net/showthread.php?t=38309 Infomration on galants in general can be found under the 7g section of http://www.thegalantcenter.net
