Is there a crank sensor plate or blade etc... on a 1997 mitsubishi galant ? The balance belt broke which is caused the crank position sensor to break as well. I am replacing both and the timing belt but I need to know if there is a plate blade or bracket or anything for the crank sensor as well ?

SOURCE: 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, EA3A 2.4l motor. Oil leal

it could also be the oil pan gasket, or the manifold gasket. if it's the manifold gasket, when you remove the manifold to replace it, take the time to clean out the mixing chamber. it'll be filled with gunk and cleaning will improve gas mileage.

SOURCE: 2002 mitsubishi galant

Has it overheated lately?
My wife overheated our Galant and it just stopped working, it cranks but that's it.
I pulled the sparkplugs and found them wrapped in a gewey jelly like substance. Like an oil/antifreeze combo.
I am going to replace the entire motor for $1000 as taking it to the mechanics to theorize and practice may cost more.

SOURCE: 2000 Mitsubishi Galant Dying at Random

It seems like a ground problem. First check all fuses to see that they have a good contact. Second, verify the battery terminals for good contact. Third verify the charging condition in the alternator battery system., remember shoul be around 14volts with car running.

SOURCE: need to know about changing the timing belt on my 2001 mitsubishi

This will take about 3-4 hours. If you look at the drive belts, they will all have to be taken off to get to the timing belt. The engine crankshaft has to be positioned for marks to line-up. The crankshaft will have to be prevented from turning so you can take off its drive pulley. Rotate until the alignment cylinder is near TDC, remove sparkplug, then packing a small rope on top of the piston prevents the engine from turning.. Once you change one timing belt, you will never buy another car with a timing belt again. You can get a manual on eBay.

99 Mitsubishi galant turns over but won't start. Why?

Did you disconnect the battery? = Anti-theft system. You need to do a relearn procedure.

Or any of the things you did may have caused it.

Crankshaft timing slipped.

The new sensor is faulty.

Coils incorrectly connected.

Where is the crankshaft position sensor located on a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cylinder

Hello, crank position sensor located at the 2 o`clock position hidden behind timing cover and crank shaft pulley. If you look closely in well lit area or use a flashlight you can follow the (CCPS) harness down the right hand side of timing cover to where it goes into lower timing cover on lower right hand side of crank shaft pulley. It can be replaced with out removing timing belt. Please note if the 60,000 miles heavy service interval for timing belt is needed and water pump condition should be observed when repairing the crank position sensor.

I am working on a 2003 mitsubishi galant and the timing belt was destroyed along with the crankshaft position sensor, balancer belt and the crankshaft sensor plate, now i have replace them and algined all...

Check to see if your getting voltage to your coil wire plug coming from vehicle, if there voltage at the plug then its most likely that when the crank shaft censor was damaged it may have shorted out your cam shaft sensor because they both run off the same system..

WERE ARE THE TIMING MARKS ON A 2003 GALANT 2.4. THE TIMING BELT BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 3-4 MPH AND POP. I RELACED THE BELT BUT LOOKIN FOR THE DIAGRAM I SEE THAT THERE IS TWO BELTS A CRANK BALANCER...

I hate to have to tell you this, but the 2.4L (4g64) is an interference engine. That means when the timing belt broke, the pistons hit the valves, causing at least a few of them to bend.

here is the overhaul section of the factory service manual for the 2.4L. its technically from the eclipse manual but it will work for the galant. The intake manifold and exhaust manifolds may not be the same but the head, block and timing belt sections are exactly the same.

also here is a walk thru (with pics) for the timing belt procedure:
