Have electrical issues with 1996 T&C van. Problem with Remote Starter and smoke and smell of burning rubber. Had to disconnect battery to get the van to stop trying to start. When i drove it home, it was smoking and had the buring smell. Is this the Remote Starter or something else?

On my 2007.5 Duramax, the factory remote has been working fine ... I tried this morning again with the remote starter while sitting in the truck and same thing, turned off ....2008 Silverado 2500 HD CCLB Duramax 6 Spd Allison 4X4 Z71 ... shut off engine", basically its doing it foryou as your not in the truck to ... check engine light on wont shift

If you have burned or melted wiring, you need to fix that, first. Otherwise you might get an engine fire started and burn down the vehicle. I'd disconnect the battery till you get the wiring fixed.

Not good. Better have that car checked out asap by a qualified electrician since you have a nasty situation there. Smells like a massive short has invaded your car.

chances you have one of possible problems . your serp belt burned up because something seized.or a electrical short at the starter or fuse box. or in the fuse box the main fuse went. but not with smoke i would check the first two belt or short in the starter or alternater

Check your fuses first under the hood and under the dash. Better hope they blew before you did major damage. If you find the ones that blew check what they ran and start checking out your electrical system in that area.Hope whatever started burning was just hot wires and not a ruined electrical system. If there is extra stereos wires or security systems installed (not factory) check that area and if possible disconnect them that may take care of the problem

This is strongly indicative of either a failed cabin heater core or to the coolant lines servicing it, causing a leak. The smoke would therefore be steam. There is no other possible way for antifreeze to get into the vents.

If the smoke really is smoke though and the smell is burning plastic then disconnect the battery negative terminal and get an auto-electrician in to check the situation, as you're at risk of a fire.

To fix the heater is a really labour intensive and fiddly job as virtually the whole dash and crash pad has to come out. If it's an electrical issue then there may be a relatively simple fix, or if the heater blower motor needs replacement then it's almost as major as for replacing the heater core. If you're looking at a professional repair of that magnitude it will likely not make economic sense: depending on the climate they live in some owners just have the heater core permanently disconnected by fitting a bypass to the supply pipes under the hood.

The good news is that there is a Haynes manual for your model which will be of immense help if you wish to save hundreds of pounds/dollars via DIY and there is an active and very useful Saab Owners' Club.

Valve seal leaks will cause an engine to smoke on start until the oil burns off. If a head gasket were leaking it would be smoking constantly.

If The alternator is charging properly and the Battery is charge there is two probably causes over a period of inactivate something is discharging your battery,(to check for this disconnect the battery tonight and see how the car start tomorrow when the battery is reconnected ) second the started is going bad and is drawing lots of amps out of the battery, for this to check you need a meter but when the starter is bad and before the engine starts the starter wines in its effort to gain revolutions to start the engine the positive cable of the battery get hot and sometimes smoke and smell like electrical burn. so you need a starter.

maybe burning smell is comes from the starter,i think the magnetic field of the starter is burned,check it

sounds like your heater core has a leak in it. take your sunroof off and get some rubber revitalizer at a glass shop. Try cleaning it and using the rubber rejuvenator on it.
