When i turn my ignition there is only one small click, battery is new and fully charged, interior lights come on but are dimmer than normal radio doesn't turn on and once I turn on my headlights everything goes dead. , when i have it turned ignition over all the way there is only one single quiet click which is more audible while bonnet is up, it sounds central but I'm not sure it only clicks at the last step of the key turn. there is no other noise.

Welcome to Fixya

Check the battery cables to make sure the hookups are not corroded. Corrosion can put a damper of the flow of electrical current and can be the entire problem. Check all terminals if they are both intact and not loose. A simple way to tell if the battery is at fault is to turn the headlights on and turn the ignition switch to start. If the lights go out, then the battery is probably at fault.
If everything looks okay, the problem may be the solenoid. The solenoid is essentially a switch that turns the starter on and off. When your car is just sitting off in the driveway, the solenoid is receiving a current from the battery, but it does not pass it on to the starter. When you flip the ignition, a small current signals the solenoid to let the current through to the starter. The starter then turns over. When you have a solenoid that is going bad, the switch can get tweaked and not let the current through correctly. Since the electrical current isn't enough to fire up the starter, the engine doesn't fire. In some cars, it just makes a click noise. Thank you for using Fixya!

The ignition switch may be faulty. If the car is 30 years old, a contact on the back of the switch may have overheated and expanded so that it no longer makes a connection.

Dashboard lights will go out randomly. It has done it for short periods before but it did it for 200 miles on hwy in dark.

The sensor is usually located on the top of your dashboard. You might see it if you look into your vehicle through your windshield at your dash.
I have seen( one time ) that a gps was bright enough that it caused the dash lights not to come on because the sensor thought it was light outside.
Or you could have gotten a bad sensor.

there is a dimmer switch to dim the dash lights. when you turn it all the way over it turns the interior lights on it is the same switch as your headlights.

1993 XJ6, has a battery drain I cant find. Sat for 1 week, and the battery was fully drained. Now I have no computer, gauges, headlights or ignition with fully charged battery. Dash lights, windows, radio,...

You've got a short in a wire which causes the battery to be drained. Check all wires going to headlights. May have a cracked or exposed wire. May also be the headlight switch.

I have a 2000 ford expedition and it will not turn over and it is not allowing the radio to come on either the battery is fully charged lights on dash come on but nothing else happens no clicking no trying...

If the battery is fully charged, the headlights come on, etc,,,the alternator is working, as it was charging the battery the last time it was running, so I would see it as more of a starter/security issue........but becasue the radio is not coming on, I would seriously look at both the engine fusebox and interior fusebox for any issues that might be there......

Definetly sounds like an electrical problem, though

Car won't turnover...only a clicking sound when turning ignition

Hi,
A small battery charger may take 24 hours to charge your battery. If you are sure the battery is fully charged then you may want to clean your battery connections.

94 z wont start

You will have to check, at the starter, for power to the SMALL wire on the starter solenoid (which is on the starter) when turning the ignition switch to start.
If there is power to this wire ( usually purple ) and power at the LARGE cable ( from the battery ) at the starter end.....you need a starter.

If you do not have power at the small wire at the solenoid with the key in start position and battery power is OK.....check the safety neutral switch.Moving the shifter around a little can sometimes allow the car to start if the neutral switch is worn.

A new battery does not always mean a fully charged battery.
Try a boost from another car before testing the starter for power.

The battery cables need to be clean and tight....and check the ground to the engine as well.

Everything else may work OK with bad connections, they don't use the power the starter needs to turn the engine over.
