I have a 2006 Mazda 3, Sport, and the problem is when I shift into park, the indicator light for P doesn't light up, and if I turn the car off, it will not start. I have talked to Mazda, and they told me there is probably corrision on the shift cable, I don't life close to a Mazda dealer so I am taking it in to another dealship next week,(Chev) Anyone else had this problem? Also, they told to start my car in (N)? My car has automatic transmission. This problem is also intermittent. Yikes!

try disconnecting cable to transmission turn the shifter on transmission manually down there connect cable again start car try it if not try it again turn once then connect cable again then try it if not the transmission is not good

have you checked the fuses? Probably under the hood and on the driver side of the dash with door open. check the fuse that says parking lights first if that doesn't fix the problem then you will have to start trouble shooting the wire harness starting at the switch is there power before and after the switch. hope this helps

The 1st thing you need to do is check the brake lights, if they are not wiorking the park lock solenoid doesn't get power and the park lock remains engaged.

it sounds like a shift lock solinoid ....this prevents the car from being shifted out of park when ur foot is not on the brake....u will have to bring this to a repair shop since the faulty part is located inside the paneling where ur shifter handle is

i had a similiar problem yesterday.. apperantly my thermostat was leaking on the alternator causing it to act up. my brake, ABS, Ppowe steering lights went on, got stuck in a 3rd gear. lost power steering and brakes.. had to pull the handbrake to avoid getting slammed into a light pole

try to disconnect the battery for a while or take it to a transmission shop some times the tansmission cumputer just needs to be reset

Check the break light fuse.If it is good then you may have a siezed cable or the park release soleniod is unplugged or burnt out.

check to make sure you have brake lights when trying to shift if not check the brake lamp switch if it is ok you might need a shift interlock solenoid
