Do you understand what exactly sets a P0505? It is not an electrical code, it is purely performance. The code sets when it can't get the idle speed within +200 / -100 of the target for more than x seconds, and it takes a failure in two successive drive cycles to set the code. ANYTHING that can cause an incorrect idle speed can set this code. Vacuum leak, dirty IAC, etc.

Buy an OBD 2 scanner, or a less expensive OBD 2 code reader (OBD means on board diagnostics, 2 means second generation-anything built after 1996, generally). Plug into your car's diagnostic port and read the codes. The trouble codes relay what the computer detected as a problem-points you to a course of action. Whether you fix it yourself or take to a shop with the codes for the repairs.
Many national chains, such as Autozone, will do scans of the engine computer for free, hoping you will return there to buy parts. Code 29A8 it's a NETWORK management fault, related with tne main computer. Will need to visit BMW dealer to delete or reset it.

The purge valve is right underneath the intake manifold, it the valve that has a hard plastic hose attached to it that runs back towards the fuel tank. But I don't think that is it.
