If you are getting steam out of the tail pipe - this is a sign that you have a blown head gasket. have a auto shop do a compression test on the engine and a pressure test on the coolant system just to be sure,, but I would say that the gasket will have to be replaced.

Are you having to replace any antifreeze in your coolant bottle or radiator, if so, then the coolant is going somewhere, it sounds like it might be a blown head gasket or more, check your motor oil on the oil dipstick, and see if the oil looks milky, if it doe's , then coolant is mixing in with the oil, if the oil doe's not look milky, then it still sounds like a blown head gasket , and the coolant most likely is going into the combustion area, and out the tail pipe. also when you start your jeep and let it run, have you ever smelled a sweet odor at the tail pipe, as the exhasut gases is coming out, if so, sounds like anti freeze. you will have to have it fixed .

Sounds like you have a blown head gasket. Could also be a cracked block. I would start with the gasket .

1999 Blazer ZR2. Replacing muffler and tail pipe. Can not pull apartl flange on muffler and exhaust pipe. Bolts broke off and still can't break. Don't have air impact chisel. Would heat help.

The auto store probably sells a big chisel and a 4 lb hammer? If your going to replace anyway, use a hack saw. In my younger days, I've cut many a tail pipe with a hack saw. So a new muffler and tail pipe will have new flanges? I can't see anything from here.

My 2005 gmc canyon just started blowing smoke out tail pipe but it doesnt do it everytime i start it. is this bad?

Possibly a leak in the head gasket. Take out the plugs and see if they are water wet. Run a compression check.

My tail pipe has fallen off at the exhaust manifold, I'm pretty sure this isn't a simple fix but would be happy for any suggestions

The TAIL pipe is at the rear of the car behind the muffler at the very rear (hence the word TAIL) You need to check the HEAD pipe. there are bolts and a gasket there, so have a shop check it out, or the dealer.

Tail Pipe Replacement on a 72 VW Beetle

Heat the area by the muffler with a torch. Try not to heat the tail pipes themselves. Then take a pair of channel locks and wiggle them out.
