Hello nglimm.

This is a fairly common thing to happen for us in the repair field.
Look at the sticker on the left front door. It will usually have the month/year on the sticker.
If you are unable to see it, call a GM dealer parts department with your vehicle identification number (VIN) and ask them if they would kindly run the number to tell you the build date.

If you have further questions regarding this, please ask me here in comments, be glad to help.

Thank you for using FixYa.

They should have asked you for the vehicle VIN number. This would have the date of manufacture. There are only two choices, and physically looking at the O2 that needs to be replaced will solve this issue of what one or style is needed.

1996. Which color wires go where?

There should have been an instruction sheet in the box with the sensor. If not, you may have to go back to the store and ask for one.
Most sensor brands are different.

05 cobalt manual oil pumped clogged up, engine almost ran dry. replaced oil and filter and few days later engine started pinging. kinda moderate when idling then very rapid while driving. Wanna do the

pinging is from spontaneous combustion ( detonation) and is from incorrect air /fuel ration and ignition timing. Run fault codes and check knock sensor and MAF/MAP/VAF sensors . Left un- checked it will melt holes in the pistons.

How to set my timing on a 2006 chevy cobalt 2.2

There is no ignition timing to set on these later model cars. The spark is controlled by sensors and the engines computer which will pulse the injectors and ignition coils. What kind of problem are you having?

How do I change o2 sensor on 2005 cobalt

Hi, place the Cobalt in "Park" on a level surface. Allow the Chevy to sit for 10 minutes. This will allow components to cool enough to touch but still be warm, which is ideal for replacing the oxygen sensor. Open the hood of the Cobalt and identify the oxygen sensor. Look for a white, rubber, plug-type sensor on the passenger side of the exhaust manifold; this is the oxygen sensor. Use a socket wrench paired with an oxygen sensor socket to loosen the sensor. Turn the wrench counter-clockwise until the oxygen sensor is loose. Remove the sensor from the manifold by pulling it off. The sensor will come off without much force. Insert the replacement oxygen sensor onto the manifold. Secure the sensor by pushing it into place until the sensor clicks. Close the hood of the Cobalt.
Take care
