Sounds like your not getting fuel check filter an pump

Hi Angie: I'd start by checking (or replacing) the front bulbs. Also make sure the bulb holder is clean and the ground is functioning.

You need to check all your grounds, under the dash and everything under the engine bay and chassis,

pinging is from spontaneous combustion ( detonation) and is from incorrect air /fuel ration and ignition timing. Run fault codes and check knock sensor and MAF/MAP/VAF sensors . Left un- checked it will melt holes in the pistons.

There is something not connected, What was the original issue?

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Place a drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
3. Remove the oil pan drain plug.
4. Drain the engine oil.
5. Remove the engine belt
6. Remove the lower AC compressor bolt.Remove the 4 oil pan to transaxle bolts (1).
7. Remove the oil pan bolts.

Most likely a broken fork bolt or shift fork itself. You will have to open trans to find issue.

Sounds like electrical problem. Is the electrical connector properly connected to the valve body on the transmission ? Maybe a solenoid was accidently unplugged when you had the cover off.

dealer is correct its a known problem for cobalt can check online their are multi cobalt forums and repair sites about the problem
