Hi, I have, 2001 Nissan Maxima. Get check engine lite. Car now has 60k miles. Local mechanic had already replaced two O2 sensors 9 months ago. I don't know what the codes were at that time. Check Engine Lite still comes on with code of p0101 (fuel too lean). This happened after driving car 2 hrs on the highway. There are no fume leaks in the system. I just took it back today to have it check again. Mechanic says Bank 1 of the 02 sensors is spiking on his monitor, Bank 2 is ok. What are my options. Thank you

    Hi,
I made a mistake. The trouble code was acutally P0171 (FUEL too LEAN). Nissan says the car's emc computer needs to have some updates to its program. Further research indicates the problem lies with the MAFS. Mass air flow sensor. It should be cleaned or replaced. The the computer should be updated (only thru Nissan). I think its odd that it would take 3 sensors to fix one check engine lite.

Renew the O2 sensors to start with and just hope that its a bad sensor on this bank they can break down prematurely .Luck of the draw their when buying new parts iam afraid your not the only one to buy new parts and have them go early .

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2011

The O2 sensors are new and the Mechanic says they are ok. Do you have any other options?
ie, 1) would the cars computer need to be re-programmed or 2) would I need a new catalyic converter or 3) take car back to a Nissan mechanic

    Thanks

no cat should be ok at this low mileage ,check the wires to the sensors as if mechanic fitted universals then he would have cut wires and joined them, up and the connection has come loose ?? ,ON the wiring to the sensor are two wires trhe same colour normally white ,disconnect them and then put a meter across and check for 12v ,then use meter on continuety and check the same two wires on the sensor for continuety first and see what happens if they are spiking then their faulty ?well i would have thought so ,or try swopping them from one side to the other side and see if the problem is still on the same bank or if its reversed ??

Can a iac for 2001 nissan maxima be cleaned?

Get a second opinion. That is some crazy money to spend, but you should have expected that from a luxury model like the Maxima. I am surprised that a 2001 model would need the IAC programmed, but it could be. I would want a second opinion.

go to local Autozone or similiar parts seller... they will check it for free and give you a printout of what's needed...
probably just an O2 sensor on the 98 nissan, but I would replace catalytic converter if near 200k miles for GP.

2001 nissan maxima engine misfire

The Fuel Pump, I assume failed & was another issue

The Fuel filter is changed every 3 years, as preventative
maintenance

The Codes for the most part are O2 Sensors, that are over six
or seven years old & over 100,000 miles & should be replaced
as preventative maint or if they fail ,sooner

You don't throw out any what if senerios, or replace any parts
in an effort to resolve anything

You component test & replace only failed parts, related to the codes
& system that has a fault & drivability symptom

You should know if the spark plugs are over 3 years old

Clean the MAF Sensor & check for vacuum leaks on the entire car

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 150.000 miles on it. the problem is when I am driven no matter where for some reason the car it does not pick up speed when you give it gas ....it goes no mero than 20...

it seems like its time for you to replace the catalytic converters. im guessing your check engine lite is on as well? but wut is happening is that the converters are clogged and as a result overheating and seriously restricting the amount of exhaust passing through them. your cars sensors are picking this up and as a result. limited power and speed. when you shut off your car for the 10 min, youre just letting the cats cool down and tricking the sensors into thinking the car is fixxed

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima and it is causing me problems. Check Engine light came on about three months ago but drove fine. No loss of mileage or anything. Did not pass smog do to a P2A00 code (O2 sensor...

i have a 2006 nissan maxima 6 spd. when i purchased it there was 89,500. i replaced the clutch disk, release bearing, pressure plate and added a brand new flywheel(from the nissan dealer). a few days afterwards, the check engine light came on with a P2A00 and a P0420. when replacing the clutch kit i had to remove the exhaust system. i thought that i did not correctly install the exhaust system. after many inspections, i did do a good job installing the exhaust system. at this point i replaced the upstream, bank one oxygen sensor(a pain in the rear). i pray for God to lead me to the problem. don't try this at home but i jacked the front of my car up and rested it on jack stands and chock the rear tire. i started the engine and got under the car under the engine. i heard an exhaust leak at the bottom of the bank one, rear catalytic converter. one that catalytic converter, it has a small heat shield tack welded at the bottom. after taking that heat shield off, i found that the two tack welds at the top of that heat shield had broken causing an exhaust leak. THANK THE LORD! after plugging those holes and drive my car normally for the next two days, the check engine light when off. problem solved!

Nissan Maxima 1996 issues-sensors

Dear Gandhi
1) You better check the 'Idle control relay' - and pray this is not your computer - who may be shorted ( The Computer that govern all elec. functions in the car - is also getting signals from your Mothor Mounts' to ensure a more balanced ride' If one or more of the Motor Mounts ( There are 3 ) are defective - they send a signal to the computer - and the yellow light ( Check engine soon) - will appear'
2) A Computer can only be fixed by a Nissan dealer ( est. $750 ) 3) The Idle control valve - can be adjusted too ( Again - by a Nissan Dealer only .
4) It is NOT an easy problem nor cheap . In short - your best bet is with the dealer - and ask them for a diagnostic ONLY ( est. $100 ) Don't tell the dealer what YOU think or did .......just tell them the 'Yellow light comes on' .......they'll take it from there.
Sorry I don't have better news today .

Best of luck

2001 Chevy Venture 92K miles - code P0134

dunno bout rotating the engine to put those plugs in, but the O2 sensor is right in the way as your arm is stuffed up behind the engine (plugs have to be done from below at the back) so I wouldnt be shocked if you found a disconnected O2 sensor that was never reconnected, or a damaged wiring loom from rough contact with the mechanic's arm. Those plugs are very hard to change so go easy on the guy!

Location of a o2 sensor 2001 nissan maxima

bank 1 refers to the side of the engine that #1 cylinder is on , and sensor 2 refers to downstream , after the catalytic converter. , this link shows bank 1 on a 2001 nissan maxima V6 being on the firewall side . if you had a 4 cylinder it would be downstream after the catalytic converter .
