Check the electrical brake switch at the brake pedal and or hand brake. This could be damaged and not allowing the switch to spring back to the "contact open" position.

many fords have "spin in" caliper pistons.

Your local auto parts store sells the tools you need. (Multi sided for different sizes)

You insert the tool and spin the caliper piston back in. (many times, they are hard to start turning but should be easy once you get started)

Make sure the cap is off the brake master cylinder so the brake fluid and rise up as you screw in the pistons.

this sounds odd but mine did this when i replaced the wipers. it seems the design of the wiper frame was making a whistle at higher speeds. the freestar wipers are exposed on the window cowl and not hidden so they endure the winds at high speed. it is worth a shot.

Anti-rattle hardware missing on rear brakes or worn caliper guide pins.

I'm assuming all of the brake lights are on? If so there is a brake light switch located way up under the dash that hits on the arm for your brake pedal. If this is not "closed" when the pedal is up (not depressed), your brake lights will stay on. It is adjustable.

Try pulling up the brake pedal with your foot,Sometimes your brake doesnt come back all the way,and the brake switch keeps the cruise from working.Also,check the fuse.If those answers dont help,It could be the swith itself is bad.Those can be bought at a parts store.

new calipers now. and i had to replace both discs. Ford Freestar is renowned for it's rear brakes wearing prematurely.

anyway, after forcing banging, and utterly destroying two heavy duty c-clamps, i check forums and found you MUST rent a tool from an auto parts store (mine was free loaner from Checker, just had to give them $80 and bring it back undamagaed, they give you back 100% back). Anyway the tool twists the calipers as it pushes them back. you cannot just force the calipers back with straight force.
