Check for faulty coolant or intake air temp sensors. Is engine turning fast enough? If not check battery connectins and main engine ground. Also have starter tested. A bad o2 sensor can also cause hard starting, although that will have to be checked by a pro.

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2010

that's only a guess without seeing datastream from pcm, right? and which sensor would you have him replace, coolant or intake air. both? about a hundred dollar guess.

I have trouble starting my van when its is cold. after that its fine. the colder it is the longer it takes to start.

Not an unusual problem.....

Most important- tune-up! Make sure your plugs, distributor cap and rotor (if so equipped), air and fuel filter are OK and have been changed (at minimum) according to your owner's guide.

If your vehicle cranks over slow when cold-starting, consider a new battery. In cold weather, batteries lose efficiency, and older batteries lose more power than new ones.

Next... Gas - the fuel in cold weather states has a formula change in winter months to lower emissions- sometimes going to the next higher grade of fuel (example: from regular to mid-grade) helps.

If you have a garage, keeping the vehicle inside makes a huge difference with cold weather starting.

Keep your fuel tank full. Running the tank down and leaving it near empty most of the time allows condensation, which will result in getting water in your fuel, leading to hard starts and poor performance, and the increased risk of "rusting through" which will cause a leaky fuel tank.

I have a 2002 Chevy S-10 that will not start. Fuel pump hums, engine cranks well, just will not catch. Problem only occurs when temps fall below 30 degrees F. Iso-Heet was added to last tank of gas,...

when engine is cold to requires more fuel and spark to start. coil or spark plug wires. fuel pump is still a possibility even though pressure is in range may not be just enough

Has trouble starting. after started it runs fine.worse in cold weather

Long cranking indicates a problem with part of the fuel pump assembly or the need for an air filter / tune-up. A restricted fuel filter also reduces fuel pressure to the injectors slowing cranking.

High mileage? Try a few bottles of Gum-out with a tank of gas, not the expensive stuff, just the regular fuel injector cleaner, then repeat & see if it improves. If it does, that would indicate Injectors and or fuel filter.

good luck

My 2000 s-10 will not start when it's cold outside.

It might be coolant temperature sensor or O2 sensor.
Also check the grounding cables. Is it dead completely or crank no start. If it is not cranking it can be starter.
Also check fuel pressure (fuel pump, relay, fuel cut-off switch)
Please kindly let me know if you need more info

My car keeps cutting off. When i go to start it, it wont turn over, and when it does, it turns off shortly after. i think my fuel pump is the problemm but how can i be sure?

Try changing fuel filter first, if not replaced recently. What's the weather like in your area? Cold, maybe try some gasline antifreeze or "heet" in case of bad tank of gas?

Wont start when weather is cold.

Tune up... its flooding when its cold due to the plugs being worn out...
