There is casting sand in it (the heater core) and its stopped up. I just fixed an 08 nitro for nothing. Remove the heater core hose closest to the motor at the firewall. Cut off a piece of garden hose about 4 foot long and slip it over the core pipe, so you can flush it out. Now remove the other hose but leave the hose attached to the core. You will be unhooking it downstream on another pipe by the exhaust. Now get an empty milk just to catch the antifreeze and sand. Use compressed air to blow the antifreeze out. I used a 10 gallon air tank with a blow nozzle(rubber tip). Get some hot water from the sink and fill it up through the garden hose and repeat the blowing out. Reverse hoses every other time you blow it out. You will see sand in your milk jug at the bottom. It only takes a teaspoon of sand to stop it up. When you stop getting sand your done but dont forget to top the heater core back up with antifreeze. Your done for free. Chrysler wanted $1200 to fix my daughters nitro and I did it for nothing. Works like new again. Jeep is the worst about casting sand left over from the block molding process and Nitro is just another Jeep. Also, you dont need to go crazy with the air. Just hold it in the hose with a fairly firm grip and gently give it a little air till you get the feel of it. Anyone can do this job and on the hose clamps I used a pair of short channel lock pliars and be gentle while you twist the hoses off. Take your time. I spent 1 1/2 hours doing this and its new again. Have a great day friend.

Dude, you're a flipping genius! After less than an hour, the Nitro has heat! The bad news: I gotta buy new garden hose next spring.

SOURCE: i have a 2000 dodge caravan, no heat

Sounds like the air "blend" door might be inoperable. This door opens and closes a specified amount to regulate the amount of either cooled or heated air, as requested by the climate control unit. If the door is continually in the position which is bypassing the heater core (cold setting), the air will not get warm regardless of the condition/operation of the heater core. I'd suggest having this component checked.

SOURCE: 2008 dodge nitro change oil light how to turn off ...

Directions are in the book, but you would put the key in and turn it all the way, just don't start engine. Pump gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times slowly, but it has to be with 10 seconds. Turn key off and when you start again, oil changed chime and warning should not be on. If it is, try again.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

SOURCE: My heater isn't blowing hot

Your heater core is bad or the thremostat is stuck out. I would just get a new thremostat put in it 7 buck.

SOURCE: Heater doesn't blow hot air

First check the coolant level in the radiator. Check your heater core hoses on the firewall underneath the hood. Let the car come up to temp. and feel the two hoses. If only one of them is getting hot you may have bad heater core or a bad heater control valve.

2008 Dodge Nitro blows cold air constantly but coolant fine.

If both the coolant hoses are hot then the coolant is passing through the heater core. You probably have an actuator or blend door that is not working. It may be restricted by commanding it to work. A scanner could help you find out the problem.

08 nitro blows hot air out the passenger side but cold out the drivers side! Was told half the heater core was plugged!! Could that even be possible?

If core was blocked by leaves, etc, I suppose this might be possible, but more likely there is a flapper door not working correctly, due to vacuum leak or bad actuator.

2008 dodge nitro heater blowing air but not heated. How do I fix this?

Does the car heat up to operating temp. Sounds like a thermostat problem. Could even be the heater control switch. Could be the heater core.

The ac on my 2008 dodge nitro will only blow hot air

Check for a clogged line. Judging that the car is relatively new I don't think it would really be that. It probably just needs a recharge. Head to your local auto parts store and grab some an AC recharge kit. Doesn't take long at all and is relatively cheap.

My ac only blowing hot air

Most likely needs a recharge. Could also be a clogged line, but pick up a recharge kit from AutoZone and try that first.
