Ignition switch when turned on all lights ok.Turn to second notch and something runs to earth. Will not start. With ignition switch on i ran a seperate earth lead from the battery to the car engine and the car started but starter did not disengage
The starter solinoid is bad.Clean and check battery cables also.
If you remove the small terminal wire on the remote starter solinoid does the car stop cranking? There are two different types of solinoids positive ground and negative ground. Make sure the parts store sold you the right one. Also if the starter has a solinoid on it make sure you have the small wire on the start terminal and not the ignition terminal. What lead up to this problem? Did it just happen or did you do something to the car and then you had this problem?

Have put a new solinoid on and new starter but no change. Is there any way of checking the solinoid. Also there is an immobiliser on the car but that seems to be working ok.I removed the solinoid and connected the live terminal wire to the starter motor wire and the car turned over (bypassed the solinoid). PS. thanks for returning my sos
Problem solved with the first suggestion you made.Bad earth lead from battery to engine block. Thanks for your help.
I am having the same type issue. I have a staight line 6 cy. My lights seem to be working and when I turn the key to on the radio turns on. My issue is that sometimes the car turns and others as if there is no contact. I too have replaced the solenoid and the starer. I am thinking it could be the ignition switch but I don't understand why sometimes it works and others as if I did not even turn the key.
Any suggestions?
I had a new starter put in. When I leave the car sitting for long periods of time ( month or so) the Battery is dead. Did they wire something wrong and it is draining my battery?
I am having a similar issue..My car sat for two years when i charged the batter and turn the key to start it, it turned over twice and then nothing. So I went and checked the battery, it was in great shape. Still nothing. But I can start it from the solenoid by turning switch to on and taking a pair of pliers and touching both sides of solenoid. it runs like a dream, but if you turn the switch to off it keeps right on running. I have changed the solenoid. I have changed the ignition switch and the key barrel. Still nothing. I am just lost. I can shut car off by pulling hot wire off battery. I have checked to see if I have an inline fuse to the ignition but nothing..It sure has me bumfuzzled.
the starter is only turning the engine a 1/4 turn then disengaging. the starter is still trying to turn though
