I am getting P0128 obd code for my nissan sentra. how to solve this

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2013

2006 Nissan Sentra PO128 . I just replaced thermostat and anti-freeze (very simple). The car has no heat but the temperature gauge is reading normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated! From what I am reading it looks like it may be the (ECT) Engine Coolant Temp sensor.Does anyone no where the ECT is located and if this is most likely the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated

Take note of the blurb regarding NISSAN products below

A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Past experience indicates that the most likely solution is to replace the thermostat. However here are some suggestions on troubleshooting and repairing a P0128 OBD-II code:

  • Verify coolant strength & level
  • Verify proper cooling fan operation (check if it's running more than it should). Replace if necessary.
  • Verify proper engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
  • Verify proper intake air temperature (IAT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
  • If the above items check out good, replace the thermostat
  • If Nissan vehicle, check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), as the ECM may need to be reprogrammed to correct the P0128 code

The error code indicates that Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature.

Usually the problem is with an faulty thermostat and it will end up overheating the car.

There are possible chances of accumulation of debris or dirt in the coolant which will require a coolant flush to be done.

Where is the ECT sensor on the 2006 Nissan Sentra. the error code was PO128

P0128 is a code for engine temp below regulated temp. It usually sets when the t-stat goes bad and is either broken or stuck open. Either of which can happen on the sentra. Replace the t-stat (especially if you have noticed that your temp gauge has been reading a little low) and that should solve the problem.
