Starts then stalls out after idle then doesnt start at all no gas in the valve by the fuel rail to check for gas pressure is this for sure a fuel pump or maybe just a really bad filter from running it...

the way a electric pump works is the pump uses the gas to keep its self cooled so when you run the car out of gas or low on gas it gets hot and has to work harder but hey what can u do when your broke. that valve on the fuel rail u can use to tell if you getting fuel have someone turn the ignition on and push the valve in if you get no gas then check the interia switch if that switch is tripped it will shut off power to the pump a blown fuse or bad relay can do the same. if all is good there take the bule line off and see if you can get gas to come out there but be careful to not get gas in your eyes if you get gas out there then the filter is plugged if no gas comes out then you got to replace the pump.

My 1987 Toyota Cressida jerks when stopped at lights and accelerates slowly.

sounds like your ignition timing is REALLY REALLY late, should be 10 degrees BTDC. also check the air filter as this could cause poor acceleration. those 5M-GE/7M-GE engines also want premium gas (91 pump octane or better) they run horribly on lower grade gasolines.

1991 cressida, i have to pump on the gas many times before it starts, its killing my battery , i think its the gas sensor but i am not sure.

Hello, welcome to FixYa. Please let us assist you.

We would tend to rule out the 'gas sensor', as most of the sensors do not come into pay until the engine is wamed up.

What you probably have is a bad 'fuel pump check valve'. This device is designed to keep fuel in the fuel lines, at the engin If it leaks off, your fuel is draining out of the fuel lines. The extended cranking that you have is the time that it takes to get the fuel pumped back to the engine.

Replacing the fuel pump will rectify this condition. The check-valve is built into the pump, it cannot be replaced seperatly.

I have a 1991 toyota 4runner V6 4wd. Lately driving my toyota 4runner around its been kinda guttless and its getting horrible gas mileage, like below 8 mpg! this is not good, my truck is running kindof...

Have you tried changing both of the fuel filters? If they are clogged your power will go down and your gas mileage will go down. I'm not sure about the smell of gas, but new fuel filters really helped mine.

2006 HHR turns over fine but won't start

Turn your key to the "on" position and listen...you should be able to hear the fuel pump running. If not, I would like to say to check a relay, but the hard starting was probably an indication that the pump was going bad and it most likely went. If the pump is running, I would replace the fuel filter or get a fuel pressure test at the fuel rail. Hope this helped, sorry for your troubles, and I hope you find a resolution to your problem that is not too painful.

Where is the fuel filter located in 1984 Toyota Cressida

The fuel filter is in the engine compartment, rear of passenger side.

You may have prime the pump:
remove the gas cap, underhood, loosen a fuel connector, wrap the loosened connector with a shop rag to catch the fuel and crank the starter a few seconds, do not let the engine run. Check the rag for fuel, if gasoline has been delivered: Tighten the connector and fuel tank cap, properly dispose of the rag.

No fuel to start it.

Take a gas line off and try to whirl the car over.  If you are getting gas shooting out, then your fuel pump is working.  However, just because you are getting gas out, doesn't mean that it is sufficient pressure.
