The cable can break either at the left or right hand latch - if you are lucky as I was, the cable operating the left hand catch was the broken one, and was broken near the right hand latch release mechanism.
I was able to open the right hand latch with the bonnet release from inside thecar.
You then have to get a piece of fairly strong wire(I used a 2.8mm welding rod) and bend a fairly tight hook in one end. Using a torch so you can see the bonnet release cable, feed the wire in through the grill and hook the swage on the end of the cable that operated the left hand latch. A frim pull on the wire should then release the left hand latch.
Good luck!

Use a sawzall or reciprocating saw to cut the latch and then replace it along with the cable when open.

could try to get a long nose pliers and pull the unbroken cable from some location, but I'm not sure how effective that would be.

How to open zetec bonnet with a broken pull lever

From the bottom. Few times have I seen it broke at the latch. Reach up and cut the cable in half( as far as you can away from the latch). Then cut a couple inches of the cable sheathing of at the latch side. expose the cable, then pull the cable to open. If it did break at the latch, then you'll need a long pick(right angle or hook). You'll have to reach up in the latch to grab the arm to release the bonnet.

Tata indica bonnet release cable broken

Depends on where the cable broke. You may have to get under the car and use a wire to reach up to the latch and open it.

1997 toyota hilux broken bonnet release how to open bonnet

i assume you have tried pulling the cable including the outer insulator, then next step is from the front left corner of the bonnet!!:using a long 90 degree needle nose pliers, grab the black insulator and move towards the wing (important to only access here otherwise radiator/condensor can be damaged, if this fails then the end of cable BALL is broken! . access thru behind the grille FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE (locate the cable entry hole on the bracket, the release lever is onthe blind side of it ) good luck, tricky but a good pen flash light will be very useful. once open relace cable and TEST MECHANISM AND OPERATION without closing bonnet!

Sticking bonnet offside catch. possible cable stretched. How to open the bonnet

if the bonnets cable is not broken wiggle one corner of the bonnet and see if it will release the catch. You may have to push on the corner very hard rapidly even on both sides if one side does nbot work for you. I find that to work on most cars. The problem for most cars that the hood or bonnet adjusters are worn and bind the opening process

Audi a4 bonnet release mechanism broken

This can be over come by getting a pair of vise grips and gripping the cable that is sticking out and pulling it out, once you have opened it Do not attempt to close the hood without replacing the cable. You have maybe only one chance at this so if you don't succeed you will make it harder for a mechanic to fix it. a new cable is not to difficult to replace, buy the cable and housing replace both.

VW Bora: Can't open bonnet

first of all not an easy job,you need to get the front grill off and look upwards for a cover that will be covering up the bonnet catch, basicly bend or pull this off,you should then see were the cable goes in,then you should be able to bar the catch with a screwdriver to release it. best of luck
