They are a type of quick connect fitting. There is a special tool just for these types of fittings. If you remove the plastic cover that goes over the fitting you will see a metal clip in a groove. You can use a small pick to carefully remove the clip (they go flyin and get lost easily but they are available from your local GM dealer or parts store). Once the clip is removed you will be able to pull the line out of the radiator/transmission fitting.
Reinstall the clip after you remove the line. The new line will slide in and click into place.

I am trying to reinstall one of these transmission lines into a Pontiac Aztek '01 radiator. The clip and the trans line went in smoothly but I can't place the black plastic protection cap/cover back on top of the metal clip like it was before. How do I get back to cover it? There is not enough room, the metal clip does not allow the plastic cover to slide on top of it. Do I have to first place the metal clip, then the plastic cover on top and THEN connect the transmission line?
