My wifes 2002 GMC Yukon goes dead after sitting idoled for short periods of time such as sitting at redlights. you will go to give it gas and go it starts sputtering and goes dead and will usually start back after a few seconds and has had alot of pressure when you remove the fuel cap

You mentioned that it appeared that you were not getting spark but what process did you use to see if you were getting spark or not?

if your engine starts up and dies right away the you probably have a fuel pump problem and the service ride control mean that your air ride compressor has gone bad just turn your key to the on position and wait about 30 seconds you will here buzzing from the left rear wheel area if the compressor is working

it should come on at intial start up and immediately go off, its' in self check mode... if it is staying on longer than it should then have it scanned with a abs scan tool at you dealer or trusted independant repair shop, please rate my help, thanks...

Probably a faulty idle air control valve. If you have a good auto wrecker near you, that's probably the best place to get one... in case it's something else. You can't return electrical parts, so you don't want to spend a bunch of money. You can check it by unplugging the connector, and, using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance across terminals A and B, then terminals C and D. Each resistance check should indicate 40 to 80 ohms. If not, replace the IAC valve.

I wouldn't think it to be a fuel delivery problem anymore.If you could get someone to scan it while the problem occurs maybe you could see if your TPS is dropping out due to a faulty sensor or connector,also you could check for a blocked cat convertor by hooking up a vacuum gauge to the engine or a pressure gauge to the exhaust at 1500rpms should be no more than 1 to 1 1/2 pounds back pressure. Also you could check your magnetic pole piece that is under the rotor in your distributor they are known for the magnet cracking at the rivets.
