There is a large pulley at the top of the engine called the Camshaft timing pulley.

At the bottom is the Crankshaft timing pulley.

Directly above (an inch or two) and to the right is the Tension Pulley, this has an adjustable allen head wrench adjustment to make the belt tight, or, during removal, to loosen the belt.

2000 grand Prix how to fix belt when it comes off

If it a serpintine belt (meaning one belt runs everything) and it comes off on its own its time for a new belt to install new or reinstall old one . All cars have abelt routing diagram if not google your car and year asking for belt diagram. Locate tensioner usually turns with wrench ( socket or box end is best) route the belt according to dia. leave tensioner for last rotate pully with wrench to get belt over release tension on wrench thats all there is to it. But if belt keeps coming off usually indicates new belt is needed could also need tensioner pully its a good idea to replace both at the same time

Hard to release the tension pully to remove belt on a saab 900s 1995

They are hard to release on all vehicles. You need to pull and release the tension with a wrench attached to the tensioner and slip the belt off the same time removing & installing it on

How do i get the serpentine belt off a 2003 mitsubishi outlander

To get this off, there are two ways:

1. Loosen the alternator, and pull it back until the tension is released.

2. There will be between the various pully's (belt runs around) a tensioner. This is holds the belt tight. With a rachet and socket, pull (push) the tensioner until the belt has slack - pull one part of the belt off (any pully) and release the tensioner back to it's position. (It will go further than when the belt was on - this is normal.

When installing the new belt, if using the tensioner, the belt will need to be placed on the tensioner last - get the belt around all other pully's in it's correct configuration, then, pull back (push) tensioner *(while holding the belt tight with other hand, and ready to be pushed over tensioner) and slide belt into place over it.

Also note: a serpentine belt will only go on one way (grooved side down).

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Need to know how to put a serpentine belt on a 1995 302 ford motor

Below the altenator is a tensioning pully, insert a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar in the square hole on the tensioner and release the tension on the surpentine belt and remove the belt. Route the new surpentine belt in place up to the altenator and take the tension off the tensioner and put the belt over the altenator pully. Double check to make sure the belt is riding correctly on all the pullies before starting. Crank the engine over several times before starting to seat the belt. f78f558.jpg

Need to loosen the drivebelt to remove the alternator

Follow the belt around the pully's and look for a pully that is attached to an arm. this is a spring loaded tensioner pully. on this tensioner, you can often fit a 3/8 drive ratchet directly in the back. if so that how you'll be able to release the tension on the belt. otherwise use a socet (if there's enough room) or wrench on the nut in front as if tightening. this will release the tension on the belt.

Hope this helps!

Ho0w do you replace the power steering belt on 1996 dodge avenger

there should be a tension idler that has to be retracted to give the belt slack most has a 1/2 inch square hole in it for a break over bar to fit in it to realese tension however i have not delt with this particular model but most are the same also be sure to carefully look at how the belt pattern is or if it still has the sticker for belt routing on it realese the tension and slip belt off first pully making sure not to put yoru finger between the belt and the pully after the first pully has been cleared the the tensioner can be released and the belt removed then put new belt on all pullys but one at this point tensioner bust be realesed again ultill belt is plased on last pully be suer belt is inline with all pullys

How to change serpentine belt .05 UPLANDER

pasenger side of the car ther will be a Tensioner pully (wheel) stick a 3/8" scocket on the wheel ( there is a place for it) and move it to the Right (drivers side) this will slack the belt and allow you to replace it. often there is a diagram that show's you the belt patern, and one of the pullys will have a little arrow that points in. that is the indication of you tensioner pully and the direction it needs to go to release tension. After you have the old off, put the new one on around and release the tensioner pully, and thats is

REPLACING BELT ON MY 2000 TAURUS.HAVE BELT OVER ALL PULLYS,BUT LAST ONE ,DON'T KNOW HOW TO PULL BACK PULLY AND GET BELT ON AT THE SAME TIME.

locate the tensioner... you need a "breaker" bar with a 3/8 inch socket head... a rachet would do with a long enough handle. there is a square hole in the tensioner... you need to release pressure on the tensioner long enough to get the belt on.
