Hi,
Please follow the instructions below carefully; Look Underneath your vehicle, a steel threaded cable comes from the back of one hub and is joined by a short cable from the other hub--then the original cable runs to a threaded end with an adjuster nut in it--and one smaller nut on the end outside of that--(this is the equalizer bar)--you'll see it real close to your transmission.
You might have to jack-up the back of the vehicle???
Pull the parking brake lever up sharply and then release it. Pull the parking brake lever to the second click and leave it there. You're looking for a slight drag of the brake shoes when you spin the wheels. To increase the drag, get under at the equalizer bar and turn the adjusting nut to take up the slack in the cables. Get out and spin the rear wheels if you think it's to tight.Don't be afraid to crank on it for a while as in this case, a little adjustment really does not go a long way. When you think you have the drag right, go back in the car and pull the brake up the the fourth click.

At this point the wheels should be locked and you should not be able to turn them even when trying hard. If you can, tighten them up a little more. Once you've done this, release the brake and make sure the wheels spin freely. If they are still binding due to the parking brake, back off the adjustment a little. And that's basically the whole adjustment procedure.

Have a nice day..

How to change parking brakes on 2003 dodge ram

  • 1 Determine which type of emergency brakes your Dodge Ram will need. Emergency brakes typically function by activating the regular braking system on the driving wheels. The emergency brakes for the Dodge Ram have used rear disc brakes since 2001.
  • 2 Release the parking brake pedal completely and raise your vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel with a socket wrench and disconnect the brake caliper from the caliper adapter. Slide the rotor from the axle shaft.
  • 3 Install the new brake rotor onto the axle shaft and complete the installation by reversing the removal steps.
  • 4 Tighten the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence with a torque wrench until the nuts are torqued to 47.5 foot/pounds Repeat the tightening sequence to torque the nuts to 95 foot/pounds.
  • 5 Apply and release the park brake pedal to seat and adjust the parking brake cables. Road test the vehicle to ensure the vehicle's brake system is functioning.
  • 6 Place tool C-3919 or the equivalent over the park brake shoes and use the star wheel adjuster to lower the park brake shoes until the lining just touches the jaws on the tool.

What is needed to fix emergency brake on dodge nitro

    Adjust the Emergency Brakes
    • 1 Raise the car on a car lift. While using a car jack may be tempting, do not use it. A car jack is much too unstable to properly support a car for long and should at least be reinforced with safety stands.2 Locate the emergency brake adjustment. It will be found underneath the car, roughly in the area where the emergency brake pedal is located in the interior of the car.
    • 3 Adjust the emergency brake using either a screwdriver or a wrench, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. The brake line will be visible and in most cases will need to be tightened. This can be accomplished by turning the emergency brake adjustment so the line becomes tighter.4 Test the emergency brake again by parking on a sloping road and engaging the emergency brake, again noting at what point it engages when it has beenpressed and at what point it is fully engaged.5 Repeat the adjustment process until the emergency brake will engage properly. Take care not to adjust the emergency brake too tight, or it will always be engaged, which will damage your hydraulic brakes as well as the emergency brake.

How do I adjust the parking brake cable on a 1991

If the car has a center console between the seats, and the e-brake lever is there, remove the console there should be a bolt to tighten or loosen. Loosen it with the lever DOWN, pull the cable as tight as it will go with your hand and a pair of pliers. Holding the cable in place tighten the bolt or nut that secures the cable. If this doesn't fix it, have your rear brakes inspected and/or adjusted.

Emergency brake push pedal goes clear to floor. needs tightening.

there is an adjustment under the van near the frame driver side near the gas filler tube.. use a wrench to tighten the cables...also check and see if your shoes are worn out. the farther they wear, the less your emergency brake will hold. Finally if none of this works, you may have stretched cables and have to replace them....

    Emergency brake

Under your Escape next to your frame rail. You will have a cable with a long metal bracket. In that bracket will be two long threaded rods with nuts on them. Use some thread loosing spray(WD40). Then tighten the nuts. Tighten them a little at a time and check your brake. You don’t want to tighten them to much.
