1998 chevy prizm when headlight switch s on head lamps dont work and if turnsignal is turned on car will die parking lights work and turn signals will flash normal and car wiil run if the headlights switch is off ar just park lights is on turn signal blinks normal speed also but car dies and blinker flashed very fast. also car dies when emegency flasher is on no matter if lights are on or not

I think you have a bad shorted battery or bad alternator.

SOURCE: 1998 chevy prizm when headlight

Seems like a huge issue huh?! First have the battery checked 2. check all connections for corrosion around battery area. I'm assuming this just started? 3. if all other things check out good, have the charging system tested for no less than 13.5 volts with all accesories on. Replace the alternator as necessary. Let me know what you find and I'll be happy to continue to advise.

Most likely its your turn signal switch. For some reason GM decided to run all the lights except headlights through it. You most likely don't have brakelights either. Sometimes you can verify by pushing a little forward or backwards pressure on the hazard switch and everything will start working.

Yes I would look for a ground circuit problem. I would look at the ground wires for the headlights first. Even run a new ground wire for the tail lights to see if it helps.
Could be a ground connection for the body to frame or body to battery.

You might want to check the high/low beam switch, it can fail and take out both head lights if parking lights work but no head lights.

The tail lights run through the headlight switch, they also run through the combination switch(turn signals) that is a known issue for those trucks try messing with the hazard light switch and see if the start functioning, also if you have a tow package the lights have seconday fuses and relay in the electrical box under the hood
