CAUTION
On vehicles equipped with air bags, please refer to Chassis
Electrical for arming, disarming and precautions. Accidental
deployment of the air bag system can cause serious personal injury.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
-
Unplug the connectors from the instrument panel rear lamp wiring
and the engine control sensor wiring in the engine compartment by
loosening the bolts and separating the connectors.

Remove the radio as outlined
-
Remove the right and left side windshield side garnish moldings.
-
Remove the 4 screws attaching the top of the instrument panel to
the cowl.
-
Remove the 2 screws attaching the instrument panel steering column
opening cover assembly to the underside of the instrument panel.
-
Remove the cover by pulling up at the top of the cover and
unsnapping the 4 retaining clips.
-
Pull the antenna lead-in cable down and unsnap the wire from the
bottom of the instrument panel and lay the wire down on the floor out of
the way.

Remove the bolt attaching the instrument panel to the panel brace.
Some vehicles may have 2 lower braces.

Remove the screw and washer assembly located at the lower corner
on the right side of the instrument panel.

Unplug the wiring connectors from the main wiring harness at the
right cowl side panel.
-
Unplug the wiring connector from the parking brake control.
-
Remove the 3 nuts attaching the parking brake control to the left
side cowl panel and lay on the floor. Do not disconnect the parking
brake cable.

On vehicles with column shift; disconnect the shift cable from the
steering column shift cable bracket.
-
Unplug the wiring connector from the brake light switch.
-
On vehicles with manual transmission; unplug the wiring connector
from the clutch interlock switch.

Unplug the wiring connectors from the main wiring harness at the
left cowl side panel.

Remove the pinch bolt from the steering column to the lower
steering column shaft. Move the lower steering column shaft toward the
engine and separate from the column U-joint.

With the aid of an assistant, support the instrument panel and
remove the 3 bolts and 1 nut attaching the left side of the instrument
panel.

With the aid of an assistant, pull the instrument panel rearward
and disconnect the heater controls and air conditioner vacuum line
connector, if equipped. Unplug any remaining wiring harnesses.

With the aid of an assistant, carefully remove the instrument
panel through the front door.
To install:
-
With the aid of an assistant, carefully position the instrument
panel through the front door.
-
With the aid of an assistant, position the instrument panel
forward and connect the heater controls and air conditioner vacuum line
connector, if equipped. Engage any wiring harnesses

With the aid of an assistant to support the instrument panel,
install the 3 bolts and 1 nut attaching the left side of the instrument
panel.

Move the lower steering column shaft toward the column U-joint and
install the the steering column pinch bolt to the lower steering column
shaft. Tighten to 30-42 ft. lbs. 41-57 Nm).

Engage the wiring connectors to the main wiring harness at the
left cowl side panel.

On vehicles with manual transmission; engage the wiring connector
to the clutch interlock switch.

Engage the wiring connector to the brake light switch.
-
On vehicles with column shift; connect the shift cable to the
steering column shift cable bracket.

Install the 3 nuts attaching the parking brake control to the left
side cowl panel.

Engage the wiring connector to the parking brake control.
-
Engage the wiring connectors to the main wiring harness at the
right cowl side panel.
-
Install the screw and washer assembly located at the lower corner
on the right side of the instrument panel.

Install the bolt attaching the instrument panel to the panel
brace. Some vehicles may have 2 lower braces.

Position the antenna lead-in cable up and snap the wire to the
bottom of the instrument panel.

Install the 2 screws attaching the instrument panel steering
column opening cover assembly to the underside of the instrument panel.

Install the top of the instrument panel to the cowl with the 4
retaining screws.

Install the right and left side windshield side garnish moldings.

Install the radio as outlined
-
Install the connectors to the instrument panel rear lamp wiring
and the engine control sensor wiring in the engine compartment by
engaging the connectors and tightening the retaining bolts.

Connect the negative battery cable and arm the air bag
system
