02 Mitsubishi Galant, changed igniton but now wont start

I have an 02 Mitsubishi Galant, for the last few months its been intermitantly giving me problems starting. When you would turn the key it would just tick, but after 2-20 trys it would, but other days it would start just fine. Well I had the stater checked and that was fine, but was told that my ignition switch was most likely going bad. Well this morning we changed it and now the engine turns over just fine but will not start! Please Help!

There is no simple answer, there are to many variables. If you have access to a scan tool, pulling the codes should help. Without them its back to old school hunt and peck method. At this point we need to narrow down the problem. You need to test for spark.

  1. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  2. Remove the spark plugs and install the spark plug wires to each spark plug.
  3. Ground (do not hold spark plug) the spark plug; check if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.
Crank the engine for no more than 2 seconds at a time to prevent flooding the engine with gasoline.
If you have spark, You will want to make sure you have fuel injector pulse, along with fuel pressure. If you have spark ..simply spray some starting fluid in through the air filter and hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it over while spraying. If it fires up, you know it is fuel related( fuel pump, regulator, or ECM if no injector pulse) . If you have no spark then look at ignition coil connection and trace through to the distributor( if equipped ). The crank shaft sensor has a tendency to fail on these as well. This should give you a few things to test and check to start you on your way to narrowing it down. If you have no spark then look at ignition coil connection for power and trace through to the distributor( if equipped ). If it is DIS( no distributor). It may be the Crank sensor or the ECU. The crank shaft sensor has a tendency to fail on these as well.
The ECU uses the signal sent from the Crank sensor to trigger the spark and fuel injectors. ( make certain you have checked all fuses)

Car cut off while driving now will turn over but wont crank

Make sure there is gas in the tank. Check your fuel pressure to rule out any fuel problems, if fuel pressure low, start with fuel filter, pump relay, and/or fuel pump. If fuel pressure tests ok, then it has to be ignitoin related. Start with coil and/or igniton module. If your car starts and runs for a few min, then quits and fails to start back, but starts back after sitting, then your catalytic converter may be clogged.

I changed the 02 Sensors on my 03 Mitsubishi Galant do I need to reset anything on my car? It turns on fine but idles low when put in gear and shuts off.

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

Mitsubishi 1994 galant idle suts off wont start back after % months at the technition

You need to check the fuel pressure and to run a fault code test on the electronic engine control system. Also check the cam belt. To run the test go here.

HI, my car for the past few months has been giving me trouble with not wanting to sart right away. The key just goes click click click and then the engine will turn over and it will sart no problem. I...

It could be the solenoid on the starter that is clicking and needs replacing.

My question is--- Why is this still an issue a few months later?
--- You need to start diagnosing these problems when they first happen,so you resolve them and have reliable transportation again.

Was the Battery Tested in any way or you just replaced it in a wish and hope type approach?
