At the top of the brake pedal, there are 2 small hard plastic fittings that fit into 2 holes. When those plastic fittings get old, they get brittle and break and then fall out. Those plastic fittings are what push against the brake light sensor. So when they fall out, there is nothing that "trips" the brake light sensor. They cost 10 bucks at nissan. Try that first. Bet that does it. It did for me !!
Sounds like the brake switch is bad or not adjusted right. It's usually under your brake pedal arm. The arm compress it to turn the lights on when you apply brakes. So it must be stuck inside , like it is being pressed. Some can be adjusted to come on with a slight pedal push or more heavy push, so check that out and good luck

Adjust the brake light sensor closer to the brake petal under the dash board. Either the switch has been moved back or the petal is not returning completely to the top. I am willing to bet it is the latter. If the switch is being depressed fully, and the problem still exists, then the switch is not functioning properly and needs to be replaced.

This happens when the brake light switch is out of adjustment or broken. It is mounted on the brake pedal rod just above your foot. Check to see if the nut has come loose on it and it backed off making the brake lights stay on. To repair it shove the switch towards the rod and snug the nut down. If it keeps doing this then the threads on the switch are stripped and need replaced. Very easy to repair. Feel free to ask me any questions if you run into a problem, Rich
