If computers arent picking anything up its not an electrical fault, sounds like your surging because of bad fuel or blocked injectors, run some fuel cleaner through the car and see if that makes a difference. fuel filters may need to be changed but try the cleaner first.

2001 Volvo S40 petrol. With my Volvo S40 car, there is a problem with the Cooling System. Cooling tank gets empty after running.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

You have a leak, you just need to find it.

Look for leaks in the hoses. Do a pressure test.

The most common reasons a Volvo S40 has a coolant leak are loose hose connections, a broken radiator, or a failed water pump.

Volvo s40 1.6 diesel lost power and cut out no warning lights

Look for a foreign object in the fuel tank. I once had a carbon receipt plug the fuel pick up tube. You could be getting water in the fuel too.

Volvo s40 gdi

My 1998 Volvo does the same sometimes. Better petrol helps for me, these engines like the higher octane petrol. My car does not like the BP petrol at all for example.
